Summary: Vision is both a physical necessity and a spiritual necessity. Lacking either one can be detrimental in our well being.

In this verse, the prophets’ revelation is referred to as a vision. Crime and sin thrive in places where people are ignorant of God. Public morality is dependent not only on knowing about God but also on adhering to God’s laws. People must know God’s ways and follow His rules for both nations and individuals to function effectively.

1 Samuel 3:1, And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.

What does it mean to have no vision?

1. Blindness – in the dark

2. Eyes do not work well – cannot focus

3. If blind, must be led

4. If cannot see, must have help to walk and with daily living

Individual Vision:

• Understanding of the Word of God

a) During the time of the judges, no prophets were speaking God’s message

b) Some refused to listen to God, allowed greed to get in the way

c) Listening and responding is necessary for a relationship with God

d) Must be ready to listen and act.

Church Vision:

• Local church / church body

a) Reach lost people – Mark 16:15, And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

b) Care for people reached – Acts 20:28, Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

c) Train the people – Ephesians 4:12, For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

d) Get people to work – Ephesians 6:7, With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:

A church without a vision is never going to grow. A Christian without a vision is not going to mature.

Proverbs 11:27, He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him.

In the business realm:

Your vision statement is your inspiration, the framework for all of your strategic planning. What you are doing when you are creating a vision statement is articulating your dreams and hopes for your business. Vision Statement: (A Desired End-State) A one sentence statement describing the clear and inspirational long-term desired change resulting from an organization or program’s work. Do you have a vision to see souls saved? Does your church have a vision to win the lost?
