Do You Find It Difficult To Give?
Contributed by Lola Olanrewaju on Sep 2, 2017 (message contributor)
Summary: A lot of Christian don’t like giving. Just like me, I do give to people if I have and I give my offering in church but I find it difficult paying my tithe
I have realised that the principle of giving is a powerful spiritual law that is guaranteed!
Giving encompasses the following:
1. Giving tithes and offering
2. Giving to the needy
3. Giving to genuine pastors and ministers
4. Giving to widows and the elderly
5. Give to whoever God is leading you to give to
FACTS ABOUT GIVING
A. we need to understand that our income is in direct correlation to our giving.Meaning that God does not prosper us for raising our standard of living, He prospers us for raising our standard of giving.
B.I believe God sometimes want to test our giving attitude so he can bless us.
Remember the widow of Zarephath. The bibles says in :1 Kings 17:8-9 “Then the word of the LORD came to him: “Go at once to Zarephath in the region of Sidon and stay there. I have directed a widow there to supply you with food.”
God said he will direct a widow to bless Elijah, I believe God has ordained this in order to test the widow’s giving habit and use this as an avenue to bless her. It is obvious that that God knows this widow is poor. The same thing happened to Abraham when God asked him to sacrifice his only son which he did and God made him the father of all nation.
C.God want to use us to bless others so can he bless us in return even if we do not have enough.
How often has someone asked for your help and you say, “am sorry I don’t have enough”.
Even though the widow of Zarephath doesn’t have enough she was still been honest and told Elijah she has a jar of flour and a jug of oil. Elijah said still give me what you have first and then you and your child can have the rest.
Elijah asked the lady to serve him the food first before herself and her son. (If this was to be you, how will you feel? Giving your last food to a stranger! Am sure our face will go red!).
This Widow never argued, she did as her heart pleases and served Elijah the food first before her family. I believe Elijah has done this to fulfil the promise of God in the life of this widow. Elijah delivered the message of hope that changed this woman’s life for ever.
1 Kings 17:14-16 say: “For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the LORD sends rain on the land.’”
15 She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So, there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family. 16 For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the LORD spoken by Elijah.
BENEFITS OF GIVING
1. Giving Always Results in Receiving (Luke 6:38)
God will use people from all works of life to bless us unexpectedly.
2. Giving Brings a Harvest (Gala 6:9)
God will return to us many times what we have planted.
3. Giving builds our faith and trust in God (Malachi 3:10, Phil 4:19).God want us to test and trust Him.
Beloved, God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Cori 9:7)
When it comes to giving, motive matters. It matters to us.And more so it matters to God.
Brethren Is God testing your giving attitude to bless you?
Has God laid in your heart to give to someone and you are doubting whether to give or not to give?
Maybe God want to use giving as an avenue to bless you.
Follow your heart, give cheerfully, God loves a cheerful giver.
Blessings!
