Philippians 3:15-16 (Amplified Bible)
3:15 So let those [of us] who are spiritually mature and full-grown have this mind and hold these convictions; and if in any respect you have a different attitude of mind, God will make that clear to you also.
3:16 Only let us hold true to what we have already attained and walk and order our lives by that.
It is a mandate for all churches to have their set of beliefs or doctrines that they believe in, i.e. they call it tenets of faith, or declaration of faith. If a certain church will not declare or make transparent their set of doctrines, they might be hiding something. A local church members think alike because they act and do according to the doctrine they have been taught in church.
When you desire GOD's instruction (doctrine), you do it and you abide on it and you speak the same.
Illustration: If a church believes on Salvation doctrine only in JESUS' name, they will promote acceptance of the LORD JESUS as LORD and Savior, and salvation can only be found not on good works or religion but relationship with the LORD JESUS CHRIST.
B. Recognize GOD's doctrine
"and can tell for himself) whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking from Myself and of My own accord and on My own authority"
We recognize, get acquainted with and understand more of JESUS only through His WORDS. Some are speaking they saw vision, they saw dreams, or a prophetic word is declared to them, these are ok but not independently of the WORD of GOD. You still need to "hear" from GOD through His WORDS. If you are like this, then get confirmations from the WORD of GOD. I'm sure GOD will confirm your visions, dreams or prophesy upon your life through His WORDS.
Hosea 6:3 (Amplified Bible)
6:3 Yes, let us know (recognize, be acquainted with, and understand) Him; let us be zealous to know the Lord [to appreciate, give heed to, and cherish Him]. His going forth is prepared and certain as the dawn, and He will come to us as the [heavy] rain, as the latter rain that waters the earth.
The simple, fool and wayfaring men have something in common, they all reject GOD's WORDS, they don't believe GOD's WORDS. The discussion and issue is concluded, they can't receive from GOD, they can't know JESUS CHRIST because they don't believe in His Will.
Isaiah 35:8 (Amplified Bible)
35:8 And a highway shall be there, and a way; and it shall be called the Holy Way. The unclean shall not pass over it, but it shall be for the redeemed; the wayfaring men, yes, the simple ones and fools, shall not err in it and lose their way.
