DIVINE ESCAPE ROUTES IN TIMES OF TROUBLE

INTRODUCTION:
Trouble is an inevitable part of life, but for the believer, trouble does not have the final say. The Bible assures us that God is not only aware of our trials but also makes a way of escape so we are not consumed. Just as He rescued His people in the past, He will do the same today. Our God specialises in creating divine escape routes when the enemy surrounds us and when it seems like there is no way out.
Sometimes, these escape routes are supernatural, and at other times, they come through divine wisdom, direction, or intervention. God does not promise a life without adversity, but He promises to be with us through the fire and through the flood. Our focus in this sermon is to explore how God delivers His children and the pathways He often uses to bring us out safely.
Today, be encouraged: no matter the trouble surrounding you—financial, emotional, spiritual, or physical—there is a divine escape route. You will not be trapped forever. God is your refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
1. GOD PROVIDES SUPERNATURAL DELIVERANCE
God is able to break through any barrier to rescue His people supernaturally.
a) God sends angels to deliver His people (Psalm 34:7): Angels are ministering spirits sent to protect and deliver the righteous.
b) Divine intervention defies natural laws (Exodus 14:21-22): God made a way in the Red Sea where there was none.
c) Supernatural deliverance brings glory to God (Daniel 6:22): When God steps in, His name is glorified.
d) Trouble cannot consume those under divine protection (Isaiah 43:2): Even in the fire, God keeps His own safe.
Biblical Example: God delivered the three Hebrew boys from the fiery furnace without a single burn (Daniel 3:24-27).
2. GOD USES DIVINE INSTRUCTIONS TO BRING ESCAPE
Often, God gives simple instructions that become lifelines in times of crisis.
a) Obedience to divine direction guarantees safety (Genesis 26:1-6): Isaac obeyed and stayed in Gerar, and God preserved him.
b) God's Word is a lamp that guides us through dark times (Psalm 119:105): In confusion, God's Word provides clarity and safety.
c) Instructions may seem foolish, but they carry divine power (2 Kings 5:10): Naaman dipped in Jordan and was healed.
d) Divine guidance saves from traps and destruction (Proverbs 3:5-6): Trusting in God’s leading opens doors of escape.
Biblical Example: Joseph obeyed divine instructions in dreams and preserved his family from famine (Genesis 41:25-40).
3. GOD RAISES HUMAN HELPERS IN STRATEGIC TIMES
God often uses people as His instruments of deliverance and provision.
a) God places people in positions to help in crisis (Esther 4:14): You were born for such a time as this.
b) Helpers are divinely assigned to bring escape (Acts 9:25): Paul escaped danger by being lowered in a basket by his disciples.
c) Divine connections are part of God’s rescue plan (Ruth 2:3): Ruth met Boaz through divine arrangement.
d) Recognising divine helpers brings quick deliverance (1 Samuel 25:32-33): David was spared from bloodshed by Abigail’s wisdom.
Biblical Example: Mordecai and Esther were strategically placed for Israel’s deliverance (Esther 7:10).
4. PRAYER CREATES ESCAPE ROUTES
Persistent prayer unlocks divine intervention and angelic assistance.
a) Prayer invites God’s intervention (Acts 12:5-7): The church prayed and Peter was miraculously delivered from prison.
b) Prayer changes impossible situations (James 5:16): The effectual fervent prayer of the righteous avails much.
c) Prayer strengthens us to endure until the way opens (Luke 22:43): An angel strengthened Jesus during His agony.
d) Through prayer, divine strategies are revealed (Jeremiah 33:3): God reveals secret escape routes in response to prayer.
Biblical Example: Jehoshaphat prayed and fasted, and God gave him a supernatural victory (2 Chronicles 20:1-22).
5. THE BLOOD OF JESUS SECURES OUR ESCAPE
The blood is our covering, our defence, and our divine passport to freedom.
a) The blood marks us for divine exemption (Exodus 12:13): When God sees the blood, destruction passes over.
b) The blood speaks better things than judgment (Hebrews 12:24): It declares mercy, protection, and deliverance.
c) The blood defeats the enemy’s accusations (Revelation 12:11): We overcome by the blood and the word of our testimony.
d) The blood guarantees covenant protection (Zechariah 9:11): Because of the blood covenant, captives are set free.
Biblical Example: The Israelites escaped the plague of death by applying the blood of the lamb (Exodus 12:21-30).
CONCLUSION:
No matter how severe the trouble may be, our God is a God of escape routes. He will not allow His children to be trapped or destroyed. He is faithful and just, always providing a way out. Whether through supernatural intervention, divine instructions, strategic helpers, persistent prayer, or the power of the blood—God always makes a way.
