Discovering God’s will in your life

Introduction

Jeremiah 1:5 “Before you were formed in your mother’s womb I knew you, I call you to be a prophet to the nations.”

Jeremiah 29:11, God said, “My plans are plans to prosper you and not to harm you.”

God has a plan for everyone single one of us and His plans are plans which are good, plans meant to prosper us and not to harm us.

That is the reason why as believers we must live our lives in the centre of God’s will. The question many believers asked is, “How can I discover God’s will in my life?” This is a valid and important question for if we understand how we can discover God’s will, we will remain in the cent re of God’s will.

In this lesson, I will share with you how you can discover God’s will in your life.

1. Follow Him step by step.(Gen 12:1-5)

The mistake many believers made is that they want a detail road map.

We often tell God, “ Lord if you can show me my final destination, then I will be able to set my course and go.”

God does not work this way. He leads us step by step.

Abraham is a good example of this principle.

(Gen 12:1-5)

When God called Abraham in Gen 12:1-5, God never gave him all the details of what he was supposed to do. All that God said to Abram was that he is to leave his country, his people, his household and to go to the land of Canaan. Abraham simply followed God one step at a time.

When God first told me that He has called me to the ministry, He did not give me all the details. He led me step by step to the point whereby His calling in my life was fulfilled.

Follow Jesus one day at a time and He will keep you in the cent re of God’s will. Jesus is your way.

2. Be engaged in an Intimate relationship with God

(John 5:17, 19-20)

When Jesus was on earth, He was always in the cent re of the Father’s will. He is always at the right place at the right doing the will of the Father.

Jesus did not fulfill this using His divine power. He relied solely upon the power of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus is therefore our perfect model in seeking the will of God.

The reason why Jesus knew what was the Father’s will at every juncture was because he was engaged in an intimate relationship with God. That position of intimacy, placed Jesus in a position whereby he was able to watch what the Father was doing and then join him.

John 5:17, 19-20

Jesus watched what the Father is doing and join Him.

God is always working, in your family, work places, church or neighbourhood. When we are in an intimate relationship with Him, we are able to watch what God is doing and adjust our lives accordingly and join Him in His work.

Let me share with you one of the many experiences I have in regards to this.

On the second year after I had became a committed believer, God spoke to me and said “My household will be saved.” and He wants to use me as the saving instrument. So I saw what the Father is doing and I joined Him. First he led me to pray for my family. For about one month, I would pray and cry for my family’s salvation. Then He led me to share with my mother about Jesus Christ having the power to heal. My mother was healed and accepted Christ. A few weeks later my dad too accepted Christ.

God is always at work, and He looks for willing instruments who are willing to adjust their lives to His plans.

The Mistake of just doing something

Have you heard the statement, “Don’t just stand there just do something!” God is telling us the reverse. “Don’t just do something. Stand there!” Get to know me. Adjust their life to me. Let me love you and reveal my Myself to you as I work through you. A time will come where the doing will take place, but we cannot skipped the relationship with God, it must come first.

John 15:5

Apart from Christ we can do nothing.

Question

What are you doing in your life personally and in your church that you know cannot be accomplished unless God intervenes? Could much of what we are doing in our lives and churches be done without reference to God at all?

Many make the mistake of planning without God’s guidance and then ask God to bless our plans. God does not not adjust Himself to our plans.
