Summary: The Holy Spirit’s ministry through the different types of anointing available for belivers in Jesus Christ.
Le 21:10
And he that is the high priest among his brethren, upon whose head the anointing oil was poured, and that is consecrated * to put on the garments, shall not uncover his head, nor rend his clothes;
Le 21:12
Neither shall he go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God; for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is upon him: I am the LORD.
Nu 4:16
And to the office of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest pertaineth the oil for the light, and the sweet incense, and the daily meat offering, and the anointing oil, and the oversight of all the tabernacle, and of all that therein is, in the sanctuary, and in the vessels thereof.
Nu 18:8
And the LORD spake unto Aaron, Behold, I also have given thee the charge of mine heave offerings of all the hallowed things of the children of Israel; unto thee have I given them by reason of the anointing, and to thy sons, by an ordinance for ever.
As believers, we too have the Priestly Anointing over our lives. However, some believers are called to specific priestly functions to the body of Messiah.
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light…” I Peter 2:9
The Priestly Anointing includes:
v Intercession- The priests of the old covenant were mediators between the Lord and men. Today Jesus is the Mediator. There is no need for another mediator or someone to represent us before the Lord pertaining to salvation. But some are called specifically to the ministry of intercession. There is a special anointing upon these servants of the Lord. They groan, feel the pain and pray deeply for fellow believers. There are times whoever that the Lord will impress upon our hearts to interceed for someone in any given minute. That is an example of the Priestly anointing.
v Preaching and Ministering- The ability to minister to others the word of the Lord, being in the prophetic or signs, involves the Priestly Anointing. In Ancient Israel, the Priest served as teacher and minister of the things of God to the people. There was a special anointing to carry out his task before the Lord. Today is no different. Every effective minister of the gospel partakes of the Priestly Anointing in order to minister effectively before the Lord.
v The Priestly Anointing is Generational- the Priestly Anointing did not stop in the Old Covenant. It was renewed in the New Testament in that the Holy Spirit now lives in the hearts of believers in Jesus. There are individuals, including whole families that throughout their generations, have done service to the Lord in one way or another. Other individuals can trace their ancestry to individuals who worked for the Lord. These individuals are anointed of the Lord with the Priestly Anointing. They have the spiritual calling and gift to stand before the Lord on behalf of others. The Priestly Anointing is beyond time and space and it doesn’t stop with physical death. The Priestly Anointing gets passed on to our children and subsequent generations.
