Did You Pull Back? Sermon By Joseph Ondu
Contributed by Joseph Ondu on Nov 23, 2023 (message contributor)
Summary: Uriah did not die because he could not handle the intensity of the battle, but he died because of the negligence of those who were supposed to support him in the battle zone.
Did you pull back?
In the morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it with Uriah. In the letter he wrote, “Put Uriah in the front lines where the fighting is the fiercest._Then pull back and leave him exposed so that he’s sure to be killed."
2 Samuel 11:14-15
The word here is "Then pull back and leave him exposed..."Uriah did not die because he could not handle the intensity of the battle, but he died because of the negligence of those who were supposed to support him in the battle zone.
His fellow soldiers sold him out. Those who were supposed to cover him, "exposed" him for the enemy to devour him. The paradox here is: the true enemies of Uriah were not those he was fighting in the front, but those he was expecting to protect him in the back.
We must understand that Uriah was a skillful, well trained, and disciplined soldier. He was one of the best in David's army. But still he could not fight the battle alone, he needed a faithful team to back him up. It's not that he was weak or inexperienced, the real issue here is "negligence".*
Strong soldiers have died in the field because of negligence, strong soldiers have been fatally wounded in the field because of indifference.
When we shift back in a time of trouble and need, innocent & faithful people die either physically, emotionally or spiritually because of us.
When we pull back and expose our brethren, expose our pastors, expose our families, we become co-workers with the enemy and God is watching us.* ```God will hold us accountable for neglecting our brothers and sisters in times of need.
he question is, did you pull back?
Let's be careful not to neglect one another especially in times of need.
Be a true brother's and a true sister's keeper.```
"Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."_Galatians 6:2
Let's pray
Father help us not to pull back when we are highly needed in areas of our life. Forgive us for many times that we have pulled back and exposed our friends, loved ones, brethren to dangers and issues of this life. Help us to bear one another for the sake of your glory. In Jesus name we pray. Amen
I am your Uriah and you are my Uriah, let's not pull back and expose one another. I am strong when you have my back, you are strong when I have your back. Otherwise on my own I'm vulnerable and so are you, Be blessed.
