Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Encourage us to live a life of gratitude, constantly praising God, proclaiming His deeds, and seeking His strength.
Good morning, church family! Today, we're going to dive deep into Psalm 105:1-5 and explore the beauty of giving thanks to God for His character, expressing gratitude for His unwavering faithfulness, and living a life of gratitude.
As Rick Warren once said, "In happy moments, PRAISE GOD. In difficult moments, SEEK GOD. In quiet moments, WORSHIP GOD. In painful moments, TRUST GOD. Every moment, THANK GOD." Let us not forget the love and blessings our God continuously showers upon us.
Let's read Psalm 105:1-5 together:
"Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced."
Isn't it beautiful how we are encouraged to sing praises, proclaim His wonderful deeds, and constantly seek His strength?
Let's open our hearts with a prayer.
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for this day, for bringing us together as a family. We thank You for Your unfailing love and faithfulness. We ask that You open our hearts and minds to fully comprehend the message You have for us today. We pray for a heart that overflows with gratitude for all that You have done for us. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.
Let's get started!
The first point we are exploring today is giving thanks to God for His character. This is a profound concept that goes beyond the surface level of simply saying "thank you" to God. It involves a deep understanding and appreciation of who God is - His nature, His attributes, and His actions.
Multifaceted and infinitely rich: He is a God of love, mercy, justice, righteousness, and holiness. He is also a God of faithfulness, patience, and kindness. Each of these aspects of God's character is a reason for us to give thanks. When we say we are thankful for God's character, we are acknowledging that He is the source of all good things and that His nature is inherently good.
God is love. His love is unconditional, sacrificial, and everlasting. It is a love that sent Jesus to the cross for our sins. It is a love that forgives, heals, and restores. When we understand the depth of God's love for us, it naturally leads us to a place of gratitude. We can thank God for His love that is always present, always pursuing us, and never failing.
God's mercy: His mercy means that He does not give us the punishment we deserve for our sins. Instead, He offers forgiveness and grace. His mercy is new every morning, giving us fresh hope for each day. When we reflect on God's mercy, we can't help but be filled with gratitude for His compassion and kindness towards us.
God's faithfulness: The Bible says that even when we are faithless, He remains faithful. He keeps His promises and His steadfast love never ceases. His faithfulness assures us that He will never leave us nor forsake us. This gives us a sense of security and peace, knowing that we can always rely on God.
God's righteousness and justice: He is a God who does what is right and just. He defends the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. He sets prisoners free and gives sight to the blind. He watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow. When we see the righteousness and justice of God, we can express our gratitude for His fairness and equity.
God’s sovereignty: God is in control of everything. He is the Creator of the universe, the King of kings and Lord of lords. He has ultimate authority over everything that happens. When we recognize God's sovereignty, we can thank Him for His perfect plan and His perfect timing.
Giving thanks is a profound and enriching practice: It deepens our relationship with God, increases our faith, and fills our hearts with joy. It shifts our focus from our circumstances to God, reminding us of His goodness and faithfulness.
