Summary: Getting desperate for a fresh touch of God
Desperate For God
According to the American Heritage Dictionary:
Desperate is having lost all hope; despairing; critical
The Problem with most Christians is they have not become desperate for God. In other words we have put our hope in things besides Him.
We are not desperate any more to:
· Touch God
· To seek His Face.
· To Be a disciple
· To be filled with the power of the Holy Ghost
· Have signs and wonders following us
· Raise the dead
· Heal the sick
· Cast out devils
Most of the church today is not even desperate for revival – the renewed zeal to obey God.
They have the que sera sera attitude the Doris Day Syndrome. Well God what ever will be will be.
Charles Spurgeon said, We need our God; He is to be had for the seeking; and He will not deny Himself to any one of us if we personally seek His face.
Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
In the Greek that means literally "unto them that seek him out."
Diligent - NT:1567 ekzeteo (ek-zay-teh’-o); from NT:1537 and NT:2212; to search out, i.e. (figuratively) investigate, crave, demand, (by Hebraism) worship:
I have a personal question to every one who is here today or listening on tape. Are you craving God?
We have accepted the standard quo of things and we allow sin and the crud of this world to paralyze us and to keep us from being what God wants us to be.
Ps 25:21 Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope (I am desperate) in you.
VWC, its time to become desperate for the touch of God and quit settling for just any thing that comes along. It is time that you and I start settling for the best things of God. It’s time to put all of our hope in God.
Psalms 40:11 LORD, don’t hold back your tender mercies from me. My only hope ( I am desperate) is in your unfailing love and faithfulness.
Acts 13:22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfill all my will.
Just like David , to have hope and to follow after God is a decision you make
Psalm 63:8 My Soul followeth hard after thee.
People who are desperate for God do desperate things
1 Sam 1:11 Hannah made a solemn promise: "Lord Almighty, look at me, your servant! See my trouble and remember me! Don’t forget me! If you give me a son, I promise that I will dedicate him to you for his whole life and that he will never have his hair cut." F2 R1 12 Hannah continued to pray to the Lord for a long time, and Eli watched her lips. 13 She was praying silently; her lips were moving, but she made no sound. So Eli thought that she was drunk, 14 and he said to her, "Stop making a drunken show of yourself! Stop your drinking and sober up!" 15 "No, I’m not drunk, sir," she answered. "I haven’t been drinking! I am desperate, and I have been praying, pouring out my troubles to the Lord.
Luke 18:35-43 As Jesus approached Jericho; a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. 36 When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. 37 They told him, "Jesus of Nazareth is passing by." 38 He called out, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" 39 Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" 40 Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, 41"What do you want me to do for you?"
"Lord, I want to see," he replied. 42 Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has healed you." 43 Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.
