Demas the Defector
2 Timothy 4:9-12
2 Timothy 4:9-12
9 Be diligent to come to me quickly;
10 for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and has departed for Thessalonica-- Crescens for Galatia, Titus for Dalmatia.
11 Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for ministry.
12 And Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus.
Demas Had Been Dutiful!
Philemon 1:23-24
Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you greetings. And so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas and Luke, my fellow workers.
He was involved in a great work -- with the Apostle Paul!
Colossians 4:14
Our dear friend Luke, the doctor, and Demas send greetings
He was involved in God’s work -- what an awesome privilege!
Demas Was Distracted!
"Demas ... loved this world." - 2 Timothy 4:10
Perhaps he loved the pleasures of the world more than holiness!
James 4:1
Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members?
Perhaps he loved the pursuits of the world more than the harvest!!
1 Corinthians 2:12
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
Perhaps he loved the pleasantries of the world more than hardship!
2 Timothy 2:3
You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
Perhaps he loved the present world more than the Hope of Heaven!
1 Peter 1:3-4
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
Demas Defected!
"Demas ... has deserted me." - 2 Timothy 4:10
Demas deserted the work of God to return to his old love!
Revelation 2:4
"Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.
Demas deserted the will of God to reclaim his own life!
1 Corinthians 6:19
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
Demas Died!
"So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God." - Romans 14:12
Demas’ earthly spiritual commission was left unfinished!
2 Timothy 4:7
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Demas’ eternal spiritual condition is left unknown!
1 Timothy 6:17
Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.
