DELIVERANCE FROM THE SPIRIT OF DELAY

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Daniel 10:12-14

"Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia. Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days."

Supporting Texts: Habakkuk 2:3, Ecclesiastes 3:1, Isaiah 60:22, Luke 18:7-8, 1 Thessalonians 2:18

INTRODUCTION:

Delay is a weapon the enemy uses to frustrate divine timing, hinder breakthroughs, and prolong seasons of hardship. While delay is not always denial, persistent and unexplained delays can be spiritual in origin, aimed at keeping believers from their divine destinies.

God is a God of perfect timing. He has appointed times for fulfilment, but demonic forces, disobedience, fear, or ignorance can interfere with His schedule. Many believers today are suffering not because their prayers were not answered, but because the answers have been hijacked by the spirit of delay.

This message is designed to expose the operation of the spirit of delay and empower us through God’s Word and prayer to break free and enter into timely fulfilment.

1. UNDERSTANDING THE SPIRIT OF DELAY

a) Delay is a spiritual hindrance to divine fulfilment (1 Thessalonians 2:18)

Paul acknowledged that Satan hindered him.

b) It causes frustration and loss of hope (Proverbs 13:12)

Hope deferred makes the heart sick.

c) Delay can be a tool of demonic manipulation (Daniel 10:13)

Demonic powers can intercept divine answers.

d) It resists progress and promotes stagnation (Exodus 5:23)

Pharaoh delayed Israel's release repeatedly.

Biblical Example: Daniel’s answer was delayed for 21 days due to territorial spirits (Daniel 10:12-14).

2. SIGNS THAT ONE IS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DELAY

a) Repeating the same cycle without progress (Deuteronomy 2:3)

Roundabout movement is a sign of spiritual delay.

b) Always close to breakthrough but never entering (1 Kings 18:43)

Near-success syndrome is a symptom of delay.

c) Watching others succeed while you're stuck (Ecclesiastes 9:11)

Delay can make life seem unfair and slow.

d) Long-standing unfulfilled promises (Habakkuk 2:3)

When prophecies seem permanently pending.

Biblical Example: The man at the pool of Bethesda waited 38 years (John 5:1-9).

3. CAUSES OF SPIRITUAL DELAY

a) Demonic opposition (Daniel 10:13)

Some delays are orchestrated by evil powers.

b) Disobedience to divine instructions (Jonah 1:3)

Disobedience can lengthen the journey to destiny.

c) Fear and unbelief (Hebrews 3:19)

Lack of faith delays possession of promises.

d) Wrong associations (Genesis 13:14)

Lot had to separate from Abraham before the promise advanced.

Biblical Example: Israel wandered 40 years instead of 40 days due to disobedience and fear (Numbers 14:33-34).

4. KEYS TO BREAKING THE SPIRIT OF DELAY

a) Persistent prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:21)

Some delays only break by intense spiritual warfare.

b) Angelic intervention (Psalm 91:11)

God assigns angels to enforce breakthroughs.

c) Prophetic decrees and declarations (Ezekiel 37:4)

Speaking life over dry situations speeds fulfilment.

d) Radical obedience to divine instructions (John 2:5)

Obedience activates acceleration.

Biblical Example: Elijah prayed persistently and the heavens gave rain (1 Kings 18:41-45).

5. WALKING IN SUPERNATURAL SPEED AND TIMELY FULFILMENT

a) God can compress time for His children (Joel 2:25)

He restores the years that were lost.

b) Divine speed is possible by grace (1 Kings 18:46)

Elijah outran Ahab’s chariot by supernatural empowerment.

c) Faith and trust in God's timing (Isaiah 60:22)

When the time is right, God will act.

d) Praise and thanksgiving unlock speed (2 Chronicles 20:22)

Praise breaks chains and accelerates destiny.

Biblical Example: God restored Job in double measure and ended his long delay (Job 42:10-12).

CONCLUSION:

Delay is not God’s design for your life. Whatever has held back your promotion, testimony, settlement, or answered prayer, God is ready to break it off. You must rise with spiritual understanding, confront the delay in prayer, and trust God to do what only He can do.

There is grace available for supernatural speed. When God turns your captivity, you will move from stagnation to celebration. You shall no longer wait in vain.
