DEATH, BURIAL, RESURRECTION
OF JESUS CHRIST
JOHN CHAP 18
Jesus Christ was sent here to DIE for OUR SINS…
He lived the life he fought the fight and was betrayed by Judas one of his Disciples….
But like everything else it all had to be fulfilled.
He was in the garden over the brook of Cedron with his disciples.
There came a small army of Men and Officers with Judas from the Chief Priests and Pharisees.
They had torches and weapons and so forth, they were seeking Jesus, and He knowing that they were looking for him – asked them – whom seek ye?
They answered and said JESUS OF NAZARETH!
He said to them I AM HE !!
When he answered they fell backward into the ground.
Then asking again he answered again.
Just then Simon Peter drew a sword and cut off the right ear of one of the high priests servants – his name was Malchus, And Jesus told Peter to put his sword away.
At this point Jesus was bound and taken away to Anna’s first – The Father in Law to Caiaphas.
Caiaphus gave counsel to the Jews that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
Simon Peter followed them with Jesus and so did another Disciple
The other was known by the high priest and he went in with Jesus in the Palace.
Peter stood outside at the door
There was a woman and she asked peter if he was a disciple to Jesus and he said I AM NOT. This is the first denial..
The servants and Officers who were outside had made a fire – because it was cold.
Peter also stood and warmed by the fire. These folks could tell that Peter was not one of them….
I’m sure that he was quite nervous about this.
Back inside the High Priest was questioning Jesus about his disciples and His Doctrine.
He told them he spoke openly in public and never had any secrets from anyone
And he told them they should ask the people and not him.
About that time an Officer struck Jesus with the palm of his hand
Back outside at the fire – Simon Peter was warming himself – someone else asked are you not one of his disciples and again Simon Peter said
I AM NOT – this is the 2nd time Peter denied Jesus.
Then the servant whose ear was cut of by peter in the garden said didn’t I see you in the garden?
Peter denied the third time and Immediately the Rooster crowed.
They led Jesus from Caiaphas to the HALL OF JUSTICE TO PILATE –
PILATE came out and asked them what they were accusing him of
Their answer was if He were not a Malefactor – We would not have brought him before you…
PILATE SAID take him and judge him according to your law
The Jews said it is not lawful for us to put someone to death.
EVERYTHING MUST AND WILL BE FULFILLED.
Pilate couldn’t find any wrong that Jesus had done
He wanted to release him back to the people
But they yelled CRUCIFY HIM – CRUCIFY HIM
Then Pilate released a robber names Barabbas to the people
And he whipped Jesus with a Roman whip
A ROMAN WHIP IS WHAT’S CALLED a 9 CAT-TAIL
It’s 9 strings of leather which is split 3 times in each one with glass, and bone in the ends of it..
Then the soldiers platted a crown of thorns and put it on his head.
They stripped him and put on him a purple robe and they were saying HAIL – KING OF THE JEWS and They continued to strike him over and over again….
Jesus probably didn’t weigh 130 or 140 pounds or so---He fasted and prayed sometimes as long as 40 days
Very small Compared to
These Large soldier Men beating on him and slapping him
He was so small and so fragile compared to these big Roman soldiers But he took it all without a word.
He took it all for all of us!!!!!
Pilate said you take him and crucify him because I don’t find any fault in him.
Just then He washed his hands of it
The Jews said he made himself the SON OF GOD!!
HE SHOULD DIE!!!
Now Pilate tried to speak to Jesus but got no answer
He said don’t you know that I have the Power to Crucify you or release you??
Jesus said…you have no power over me at all except it were given thee from above.
He that brought me to you has committed the greater sin!!
So finally Jesus was brought to be crucified. And they all cried away with him
They started their journey to the place of a skull known in Hebrew as GOLGOTHA And Jesus Beared His Cross.
