Dealing With Negative Unsolicited Covenants.
In a biblical context, a covenant is a solemn, binding agreement or pact between God and humans, often involving promises and conditions, and serving as a foundation for a relationship and God's redemptive plan.
In Leviticus 5:4
If a man makes a vow to the LORD or swears an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word; he must do everything he has promised. This generally refers to restrictive covenants or agreements imposed without a prior request or agreement by the person suffering the effects of the covenant.
Major Covenants in the Bible that can be said to be power inducing covenants
• Noahic Covenant:
This covenant, established after the flood, is a promise from God to never again destroy the earth with a flood and to uphold creation. It's considered a broad covenant, encompassing all living things, and is unconditional.
• Abrahamic Covenant:
This covenant, found in Genesis 12:1-3 and 15:4-21, is a foundational covenant, promising Abraham a great nation, land, and a blessing to all nations through his descendants. It's considered unconditional, meaning God's promise is not dependent on Abraham's actions.
• Mosaic Covenant:
This covenant, made with the Israelites at Mount Sinai, is a conditional covenant involving the giving of the Law (Ten Commandments and other laws) in exchange for their obedience. It's a covenant of works, where blessings and curses are tied to obedience or disobedience.
• Davidic Covenant:
This covenant, found in 2 Samuel 7, promises David a dynasty and an eternal throne for his descendants, with the understanding that a righteous son will reign forever. It's considered an unconditional covenant, though the specific terms are subject to the actions of David's descendants.
• New Covenant:
This covenant, inaugurated by Jesus, is a promise of forgiveness and reconciliation through his sacrifice and the establishment of a new relationship with God. It's described as a covenant of grace, where blessings are offered freely through faith in Jesus.
In Genesis 29:26-28, Jacob got into a polygamous covenant by being deceived by his father-in-law to be, Laban.
In Joshua 9, we see the deception of Israel by the Gibeonites.
A lot of people are living lives entangled by deceptive, unsolicited and usually hidden covenants. The fact that they are hidden but embedded makes them stubborn and difficult to discern makes them hard to shake off. In fact, in some cases it may take generations to rid oneself of such restrictions.
Most of these covenants do not honor or acknowledge God The oaths are taken before idols and fake gods.
When an emissary of the kingdom of darkness makes a statement like, “He or she belongs to us’ or he/she is our meat, it means they have found a way to tie down or bypass the spiritual and physical protections of the unsuspecting individual and it is usually through evil covenants.
