Danger of Spiritual Dementia

It's dangerous to lose your short-term memory where things of God are concerned. Some of the most notable diseases that Rob and individual of their ability to remember are dementia, Sundowners, or Alzheimer's.

In 2013 there were an estimated 1.7 million deaths directly associated with dementia. It is believed to cost our nation and been diagnosed with forms of dementia 604 billion dollars a year dealing with Dementia. 10% of people will develop some form of Dementia or Alzheimer's in the later stages of their life. In 2015 it was reported that 46 million people in America and been diagnosed with forms of Dementia.

In 2015, there were approximately 29.8 million people worldwide with AD. It most often begins in people over 65 years of age, although 4–5% of cases are early-onset Alzheimer's. It affects about 6% of people 65 years and older. In 2015, dementia resulted in about 1.9 million deaths.

These diseases began to manifest themselves very subtly at first. Short-term memory is one of the first signs of the onset of disease. As the disease continues to manifest itself more and more symptoms become obvious. In the final stages of the disease, one becomes susceptible to paralysis, loss of cognitive function, loss of productivity, and loss of body functions. Though the person may continue to bear a resemblance to the productive human they once were, they lay in the grip of this dreaded disease an ultimately succumb to death. They are no longer aware of their surroundings, they no longer recognize friends and family, they lose the ability to speak, they must be fed through a feeding tube, they must be bathed, closed, and cared for continually.

In the scripture text we find a group of people who are beginning to manifest signs of spiritual disease. Though they are still with Christ, they still identify with him in name, they are still a part of the church they have already begun to manifest signs that the soul is sick. Faithlessness and unbelief begin to be the Hallmark of their current condition. It seems to be imperative, the Holy Ghost instructed the writer to insert his commentary here, they considered not the miracle of the Loaves and Fishes.

It is interesting to note in the prophecy of the last day, Paul tells young Timothy his prodigy, unthankfulness immediately precedes Unholy. The distance between being Unholy and being unthankful it's a very short Journey indeed.

As someone becomes the prey to the dreaded disease of dementia, their short-term memory is the first to go. They can remember their childhood, they can remember things from long ago, but they do not remember whether or not they've had breakfast today. Keep a close eye on those to begin to only remember the Miracles of the early church. There is a certain sickness that manifests itself in the conversation of the person who only feels like God moved yesterday. When we fail to recognize the Miracles of today we are already displaying signs of spiritual sickness. the commandant issued by Solomon in Ecclesiastes explicitly commanded that we say not that the former days were better than these.

As we watch Christians begin to go into the latter stages of spiritual dementia, their testimony will stop, their praise will be silenced, their worship will become extinct, their feet will no longer dance they will become gripped by the paralysis of a diseased Soul. Though outwardly they may continue to look much the same as they have in days gone by, inwardly they are being eaten away slowly and deliberately are the disease of spiritual dementia.

There is a Stark warning issued by Saint Mark in his gospel to consider the miracle of the here-and-now!!!

Elijah found himself encased, entombed, and entwined in a cave of Despair, despondency, depression, dejection and discouragement. He had just outran the best horses that Ahab and Jezebel had in their kingly Remuda. He had ran approximately 73 miles faster than the horses of the king could run. He had called fire down from the heavens with a mere 63 word prayer. At his spoken word the prophets of Baal and the prophets of the Grove and become a nonprofit organization. All of a sudden you find the prophet under a juniper tree, shortly after that you'll find him far back in the dark damp regions of a cave. Failure to recognize, respect, and respond to God's miraculous moving in your current moment will land you in the bed of death by spiritual dementia.

Don't fall prey to the devil. Don't allow him to rob you of your short-term memory. Count your many blessings name them one by one you'll find it is surprising What the Lord Has Done. Don't overlook your blessings while walking through life's Valley. Just look around you'll find the Lord somewhere.
