Note to the reader:

If you have been blessed with this sermon compilation, I would be honoured to receive an e-mail from you merely telling me where in the world you are based- I do not need any other information. This is merely so that I can have the pleasure of giving thanks to Almighty God that all over the globe the ministry which he has entrusted to me, is blessing the body of Christ and helping to extend the Kingdom of God.

Thank you.

CREATIVE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters.... .GENESIS 1:2 (AMP. BIBLE)

The Holy Spirit, along with the Father and the Son was at work in creation. “He is generally pictured as completing, filling, and giving life to God’s creation” (Bible Doctrine by Wayne Grudem, ZONDERVAN).

1. THE SPIRIT BROODED …RECREATED

-------------------------------------------------

In the first and second verses of Genesis, Scripture records the beginning of time. “The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters....”. Genesis 1:2 (AMP. BIBLE). Like a mother hen broods over her little chicks, the Holy Spirit brooded upon the face of the waters.

The Holy Spirit began a ministry here which we will find Him doing again and again. It is re-creation! He comes onto the scene and He recreates. This is precisely what He does for us. You will remember that the Lord Jesus said, “… Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God” (John 3:5). Just as in the beginning, when the Holy Spirit was the agent in recreation- bringing about order and light where there was chaos, emptiness and darkness, so too the Holy Spirit has brought order and light into the Christian’s world, which was previously filled with darkness, chaos and confusion.

2. THE SPIRIT CONTINUES TO RECREATE

---------------------------------------------------

“When someone becomes a Christian he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same any more. A new life has begun!” (2 Cor. 5:17 The Living New Testament). He has been recreated by the Spirit of God! The Holy Spirit continues His work of recreation in the life of the believer on a daily basis so that “We are transfigured much like the Messiah, our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful as God enters our lives and we become like him” ( 2 Cor 3:18 The Message). All this “comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit” (2 Cor 3:18 NIV).

3. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE ACTIVE AGENT OF GOD’S SPOKEN WORD

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The HoIy Spirit moves to perform the functions of the Godhead, bringing about God’s ultimate intention for time and eternity. The Spirit of God moved over the dark vapors, waiting for a voice, a command—ready to act to make the Word happen. The Holy Spirit, the active agent of God’s spoken Word, moved to birth light out of darkness, to renew order out of chaos, to resurrect the earth and to breathe God’s life into molded clay. God saw the work and called it good.

How awesome to contemplate the creative power of the Holy Spirit. How He moves we cannot fathom, but we see the evidence of His miraculous work. His ways are past finding out. (John 3:8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”). Yet we are invited to know Him and experience Him in our own spirit man.

What do we know about the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is not resting. He is working. He is movement. He is action. He is divine energy, breath and life. He is spirit. He is God!

The Hebrew word for “Spirit” is Ruach, which means ‘wind’, ‘breath’, ‘spirit’. Elsewhere the Bible confirms the involvement of the Holy Spirit in creation:

By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. . . . He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. (Psalm 33:6,9 NKJV)

0 LORD, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all. The earth is full of Your possessions. . . . You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; and You renew the face of the earth. (Psalm 104:24, 30 NKJV)

The LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being (Gen 2:7)
