Our homes are sacred spaces where children learn to love and serve God through positive, godly examples. How can we ensure our homes are truly blessed?
Many Christians fail to recognize the sacredness of their homes, often underestimating God's perspective and heart for the family. In this sermon, we will explore the importance of the home and family to God, His pattern for the family, and the principles for experiencing His blessings in our homes. We will also address the modern trends that pose a threat to the Christian family and offer practical steps to restore God's design for our homes.
1. Make a Clear Choice:
Joshua 24:15 - "But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."
Joshua made a deliberate decision for his home to serve and worship only one God, rejecting idolatry and embracing faithfulness. Despite the choices of others, Joshua's wife and children knew that he would lead them in the right direction. We, too, must choose to live according to God's design for our homes and families.
2. Create a Welcoming Atmosphere:
2 Samuel 6:11 - "The Lord blessed him and his entire household."
Obed-Edom experienced God's blessings when he welcomed His presence into his home. While we may not have a physical box like Obed-Edom, we often have a focal point in our homes that shapes our lives. For many, this is the television, which can influence our values, relationships, and priorities. Instead, we should focus on God's presence and goodness, reminding ourselves daily of His faithfulness, promises, provision, and leadership.
3. Build an Ark of Salvation:
Hebrews 11:7 - "By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family."
Noah did everything he could to save his family from impending judgment. Similarly, we must build a home that points our families to Jesus, the Savior. While we cannot force our children to choose salvation, we can create an environment that encourages faith and guides them in the right direction.
To experience God's blessings in our homes, we must prioritize Him and His values. We should exalt God, exemplify Christlikeness, encourage faithfulness, educate our children in God's ways, and establish godly values. By making our homes a place where God is acknowledged, treasured, and worshipped, we can create a blessed environment for our families.
Remember, our homes are sacred spaces where children learn to love and serve God through positive examples. Let us choose to make our homes His home and experience the true blessings that come from living according to God's design for the family.
