INTRODUCTION:

The God we serve is a covenant-keeping God. His promises are not arbitrary; they are rooted in divine covenants that are everlasting and unbreakable. One of the most powerful covenants God made with man is the Covenant of Increase, first revealed in His dealings with Abraham.

In Genesis 17:2, God says to Abraham, “And I will make My covenant between Me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.” This was not just a personal promise—it was a generational covenant that extended beyond Abraham to his descendants in perpetuity.

When we understand the Covenant of Increase, we position ourselves to live in the overflow of God’s provision, abundance, and divine favour. It is not just about wealth—it is about growth, influence, spiritual maturity, and fulfilment of divine purpose.

1. GOD INITIATES THE COVENANT OF INCREASE

The origin of every covenant lies with God’s will and not man’s desire.

a) God chooses whom to establish covenant with.

He called Abraham out of obscurity and made him a channel of blessing (Genesis 12:1-3).

b) Divine covenants are based on grace, not merit.

Abraham didn’t earn it—it was God's sovereign decision (Romans 4:16).

c) God initiates increase through divine encounters.

It was during an encounter that God revealed the covenant of multiplication (Genesis 17:1-2).

d) Every genuine increase must trace back to God.

Human strategies may succeed briefly, but divine increase lasts.

Biblical Example: Noah received a covenant promise of preservation and continuity after the flood (Genesis 9:1-9).

2. COVENANT INCREASE IS GENERATIONAL

God’s promise to Abraham wasn’t limited to him—it extended to his descendants.

a) God’s blessings overflow from one generation to another.

“I will establish My covenant between Me and thee and thy seed…” (Genesis 17:7).

b) Children of covenant partake of the same grace.

Isaac and Jacob walked in the increase promised to Abraham (Genesis 26:12-14).

c) A covenant man leaves a legacy of blessing.

Abraham became the father of many nations through divine increase.

d) Our obedience today can secure divine increase for generations.

Covenant living ensures continued blessings (Psalm 103:17-18).

Biblical Example: God multiplied Israel in Egypt because of the covenant with Abraham (Exodus 1:7).

3. OBEDIENCE IS THE ACTIVATOR OF THE COVENANT OF INCREASE

Every covenant has conditions, and obedience is the key that unlocks the promise.

a) God expects covenant people to walk before Him in integrity.

“Walk before Me and be thou perfect” (Genesis 17:1).

b) Obedience proves our trust in God’s covenant.

Abraham believed and obeyed even when it was difficult (Hebrews 11:8-10).

c) Disobedience hinders covenant blessings.

Israel’s disobedience led to loss of divine favour (Deuteronomy 28:15-20).

d) Those who keep God’s word experience continuous increase.

His promises never fail those who remain faithful (Psalm 1:1-3).

Biblical Example: Isaac stayed in Gerar in obedience and prospered beyond measure (Genesis 26:1-6, 12-14).

4. THE COVENANT OF INCREASE TOUCHES EVERY ASPECT OF LIFE

God’s increase is holistic—it touches spirit, soul, body, family, and destiny.

a) God increases spiritual depth and intimacy.

Covenant people grow in relationship and revelation of God.

b) God increases material and financial resources.

Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were all blessed materially.

c) God enlarges influence and authority.

Covenant carriers impact nations and generations.

d) God multiplies fruitfulness in every area.

“Be fruitful and multiply” is a consistent covenant command (Genesis 1:28, 9:1).

Biblical Example: Joseph, a covenant child, rose from prison to palace and preserved nations (Genesis 41:39-44).

5. COVENANT INCREASE IS SUSTAINED BY FAITH

Faith is the bridge between the promise and its manifestation.

a) Abraham believed God against all odds.

“He staggered not at the promise of God…” (Romans 4:20-21).

b) Faith turns covenant into personal experience.

It’s not enough to know the promise—you must believe it (Hebrews 11:6).

c) Fear and doubt hinder divine multiplication.

The Israelites' fear delayed their entry into the Promised Land.

d) Faith-filled declarations accelerate increase.

Life and death are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21).

Biblical Example: Sarah received strength to conceive through faith in the covenant promise (Hebrews 11:11).

CONCLUSION:

The Covenant of Increase is God’s unchanging commitment to His people—to bless, multiply, and expand them for His glory. When you understand and walk in this covenant, lack and limitation lose their power over you.

This covenant is not automatic; it requires faith, obedience, and commitment to God’s principles. As you activate this covenant through your lifestyle, prayer, and faith, God will multiply you exceedingly—spiritually, materially, and generationally.

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Father, thank You for the everlasting covenant of increase.

2. Lord, multiply me according to Your word in Genesis 17:2.

3. Every seed of stagnation in my life, be uprooted in Jesus’ name.

4. I receive grace to walk in obedience and covenant alignment.
