Focus Passage: Luke 17:11-19
Supplemental Passage: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Introduction:
I. Difficult Situation
a. Leprosy – alienation, public fear, loneliness, can’t even worship with others
b. Sickness, bad reputation, financial difficulties, martial problems, etc
II. Attitude of Gratitude
a. Only one came back and Jesus noticed it.
b. First desire of a sinner cleansed is to give thanks.
c. God knows when we don’t give Him thanks for what He has done.
III. Obedience to God
a. Jesus said, “go”, meaning “go show yourself to the priest” or “continue in your obedience”
b. The 9 others were in the process of obeying the letter of the command, but they didn’t take time to thank God for His blessing.
c. While many have received the touch/blessing/healing/forgiveness of God, where are they now? Have they failed to return to God to give Him glory? Have they re-mingled with the world? Like the other nine, are they ever heard from again?
