To emphasize that as believers, our identity is in Christ, who is our cornerstone, and we are built on Him, forming a spiritual house where we serve as a holy priesthood.

Introduction

Good morning, brothers and sisters. We are here today to explore the amazing truth of our identity in Christ. As Charles Spurgeon once said, "To be in Christ is the ground of the believer's security; it is the source of the believer's life; it is the pinnacle of the believer's glory." We are not merely followers of Christ, but we are built on Him, He is our cornerstone, and together, we stand strong.

Our Scripture today is from 1 Peter 2:4-5: "As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him—you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ."

Let's pray:

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the privilege of being called your children. As we explore Your Word today, open our hearts and minds to fully understand and embrace the truth that Christ is our cornerstone, and we are built on Him. Teach us how to stand strong together, loving and supporting one another as we serve you. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Christ is Our Cornerstone

The cornerstone is the first stone set in the construction of a masonry foundation. It is important since all other stones will be set in reference to this stone, thus determining the position of the entire structure. In the same way, Christ is our cornerstone. He is the foundational stone upon which our faith is built. He is the reference point from which all other aspects of our lives are set. Our beliefs, our values, our actions, our decisions, everything is determined in reference to Christ. He is the one who gives direction to our lives, the one who sets us on the right path.

When we understand Christ as our cornerstone, we begin to see that our identity is not defined by the world or by our own achievements, but by our relationship with Christ. We are chosen by God, precious to Him, and built into a spiritual house. It changes the way we see ourselves, the way we interact with others, and the way we live our lives. We are not just individuals trying to make our way in the world, but we are part of something bigger, something eternal. We are part of God's spiritual house, His holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to Him through Jesus Christ.

Understanding Christ as our cornerstone also means recognizing that He is the source of our strength and stability. In a world that is constantly changing, where nothing seems certain, Christ is our sure foundation. He is the one who holds us steady, who keeps us grounded. No matter what challenges we face, no matter what storms come our way, we can stand firm because we are built on Christ, our cornerstone.

Furthermore, Christ as our cornerstone means that our lives are built on His teachings, His example, and His love. We are called to live as He lived, to love as He loved, to serve as He served. This is not always easy. It requires sacrifice, it requires humility, it requires courage. But it is the way of Christ, the way of the cornerstone. And as we follow His way, we find that it leads to life, to joy, to peace.

Finally, understanding Christ as our cornerstone means recognizing that we are not alone. We are part of a community of believers, all built on the same cornerstone. We are called to support one another, to encourage one another, to love one another. We are not just individual stones, but we are being built together into a spiritual house. This is a beautiful picture of the church, a community of believers standing strong together, built on Christ, our cornerstone.
