This sermon explores "Godfidence," the concept of placing our utmost trust and confidence in God, rather than in earthly authorities or ourselves.
So good to see you all here today. We're about to get into a topic that's a little different, but one that's going to make a whole lot of sense once we get going. We're talking about "Godfidence" today. Now you might be wondering, "What's this Godfidence thing?" Well, hang tight, we're going to get to that in just a bit.
But first, let's start with a quote from the well-respected Christian author, A.W. Tozer. He once said, "What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." Now, isn't that something? Our perception of God, our trust in Him, that's what really defines us. That's what Godfidence is all about.
And to back that up, let's look at our Scripture for today. It's from Psalm 118:8-9. It goes like this: "It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in humans. It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes."
Now, isn't that something? The psalmist is telling us that our trust, our confidence, should be in the Lord. Not in humans, not in princes or any other earthly authority, but in the Lord. That's where our Godfidence comes from.
Before we get into this, let's say a prayer together.
Dear Lord, we're here today to learn more about you, to understand how we can put our full trust in you. Open our hearts and minds to your word, guide us as we learn about Godfidence. Help us to apply this in our daily lives. We pray this in your holy name, Amen.
Godfidence, as we've mentioned, is all about placing our trust in God. It's about believing in His power, His wisdom, and His love for us. It's about knowing that He is in control, even when things seem chaotic and uncertain. It's about having faith that He will guide us, protect us, and provide for us, no matter what.
This kind of confidence is different from the confidence we might have in ourselves or in other people. It's not based on our abilities, our achievements, or our status. It's not dependent on the approval or acceptance of others. It's not shaken by failure, rejection, or hardship. It's a confidence that is steady, unchanging, and unshakeable, because it's based on the one who is steady, unchanging, and unshakeable.
The psalmist in Psalm 118 understood this. He knew that human beings, even the most powerful and influential ones, are fallible and unreliable. They can let us down, they can fail us, they can disappoint us. But God, on the other hand, is infallible and reliable. He never lets us down, He never fails us, He never disappoints us. That's why the psalmist declared, "It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in humans. It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes."
This is a profound statement, and it's one that we need to take to heart. We need to realize that our trust should not be in ourselves or in others, but in God. We need to shift our confidence from the temporal and the transient to the eternal and the enduring. We need to stop relying on our own strength and start relying on God's strength. We need to stop seeking the approval of others and start seeking the approval of God. We need to stop fearing the unknown and start trusting in the known - that God is good, that He loves us, and that He is in control.
