A Personal Request - 1 Be merciful unto me, O God,
A Persistent Request - be merciful unto me: (Repeated)
A Persuaded Request - for my soul trusteth in thee.
B. His Refuge -
It's Provision - 1 yea, in the shadow of thy wings
It's Protection - will I make my refuge,
It's Prevention - until these calamities be overpast.
Psalm 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
C. His Resolve -
To Entreat - 2 I will cry unto God most high;
To Trust - unto God that performeth
To Triumph - all things for me.
D. His Reassurance -
The Assurance - 3 He shall send from heaven
The Assistance - and save me from the reproach
The Ascendance - of him that would swallow me up. Selah.
we need to allow Him to fight our battles for us.
II. David's Crisis - A Crisis of Oppression (4-6)
A. His Danger -
His Place - 4 My soul is among lions:
His Peril - and I lie even among them that are set on fire,
His Purity - even the sons of men
His Protest - whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.
B. His Desire -
For God's Grace - 5 Be thou exalted, O God,
For God's Gift - above the heavens;
For God's Glory - let thy glory be above all the earth.
C. His Dilemma -
Their Subtlety - 6 They have prepared a net for my steps;
Their Savagery - my soul is bowed down:
Their Strategy - they have digged a pit before me,
Their Scrutiny - into the midst whereof they are fallen themselves. Selah.
D. His Dependence -
5 Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; let thy glory be above all the earth.
III. David's Confidence - The Confidence of Salvation (7-11)
A. His Witness - 7 My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed.
Psalm 34:4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
B. His Worship -
It's Personality - 7 I will sing and give praise.
It's Priority - 8 Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.
It's Publicity - 9 I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people:
I will sing unto thee among the nations.
It's Persistency - Job 1:20 Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, 21 And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
C. His Wonder - 10 For thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds. 11 Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: let thy glory be above all the earth.
