Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Being filled with the Spirit is a fundamental part of our Christian faith, and we are called to live out of the abundance of the Spirit's power in us, not just to the point of being filled, but to the point of overflow.
Good morning, church family! Today we're going to dive deep into Colossians 2:9-10 where Paul talks about the richness and fullness of the Spirit. It's a message that's not just about being filled, but being filled to the point of overflow.
A.W. Tozer once said, "The Spirit-filled life is not a special, deluxe edition of Christianity. It is part and parcel of the total plan of God for His people."
Let's read the passage together,
"For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority."
Let's pray.
Dear Lord, as we unpack Your word today, would You fill us anew with Your Spirit. Let us not just sip from Your well, but drink deeply and live from a place of spiritual overflow. Teach us, guide us, and empower us, Lord. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Let's dive into this rich passage together and see what God has in store for us today.
The fullness of the spirit is not just about having the Spirit, but about being so filled with the Spirit that it overflows into every aspect of our lives. This is what Paul is talking about in Colossians 2:9-10. He's not just saying that Christ was filled with the fullness of God, but that we too are complete through our union with Christ. This is a powerful statement about our identity in Christ and the potential we have to live Spirit-filled lives.
A forever experience: We're talking about a continual, ongoing filling of the Spirit that impacts every part of our lives. It's not a static state, but a dynamic process. It's not about reaching a certain level of spirituality and then coasting. It's about continually seeking more of God, continually being filled with His Spirit, and continually living out of that fullness.
The impact we can have on the world around us: When we're filled with the Spirit, we're empowered to live out our calling and to make a difference in the world. We're equipped to be God's hands and feet, to show His love and to share His message. We're not just receivers of God's grace, but channels through which His grace can flow to others.
Not something we can achieve on our own: It's not about our efforts or our abilities. It's about God's grace and His power working in and through us. It's about surrendering to God, allowing Him to fill us with His Spirit, and then living out of that fullness. It's about recognizing our need for God and our dependence on Him. It's about letting go of our self-sufficiency and embracing our God-sufficiency.
A journey: It's not about arriving, but about continually growing and maturing in our faith. It's about deepening our relationship with God, increasing our understanding of His Word, and becoming more like Christ. It's about not being satisfied with where we are, but always striving for more of God.
Not about us, about God: It's about His love for us, His desire to fill us with His Spirit, and His plan for us to live Spirit-filled lives. It's about His power working in and through us, His grace overflowing from us, and His glory being revealed in us.
Pastor, here would be a good place to share a personal story about when you first felt filled with the spirit and how that shaped your faith.
