COMMUNION JUDGMENT OR HEALTH

I COR. 11:20-34

INTRODUCTION:

A. DIVINE HEALTH – GREATEST BLESSING NEXT TO ETERNAL LIFE.

What would a man on his deathbed ask for?

Not wealth, not leisure, not fame

But that his health may return to him.

B. GOD NATURE IS TO HEAL

Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus …who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the Devil …

Jesus did a lot of healing during his ministry.

Psalms 105:37 He also brought them out (from Egypt) with silver and gold and there is none feeble among his tribes

C. If God’s nature is to heal, why are many Christians sick?

When unbeliever are sick, it’s because they don’t have God’s protection.

The bible tells us of only one reason why some Christians are weak sickly, and many sleep.-------- not discerning the Lord’s body.

I Cor 11:29-30

I. WHAT IT MEANS TO DISCERN THE LORD’S BODY - I Cor 11:29

Discern – understand. Know what the bread and wine symbolizes

WINE symbolizes JESUS’ BLOOD, for our FORGIVENESS OF SIN

BREAD symbolizes JESUS’ BODY, for our HEALING

II. WHAT IT MEANS TO PARTAKE UNWORTHILY? - I Cor 11:29

Unworthily – an adverb, an action word that describes the manner of eating.

Not describing the person as unworthy. It’s not about if you sin or not.

III. WHAT IT MEANS TO EXAMINE YOURSELVES

Examine the manner you partake the Communion.

Not examine your heart if you have sin.

Some Corinthian believers goes ahead without waiting for others. Some are hungry others are drunk. (I Cor 11:21)

IV. WHAT IT MEANS TO DRINK AND EAT JUDGMENT TO YOURSELVES

Judgment (krima)- divine sentence. Like the divine sentence of Adam and Eve when they fell. God said if you eat from the forbidden tree you will surely die. The process of dying started on Adam and Eve. Their body is now subject to weakness, sickness and eventually they die. Before Jesus died, He ordained the Holy Communion to reverse the Divine Sentence. So that when we partake the Communion instead of being weak and sickly we become strong and in good health

CONCLUSION:

If we discern the Lord’s body …

We will have strength, good health and long lives

Will add years to our lives and add lives to our years!
