21Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them, 22and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him

Command and a promise

1)Spiritual Knowledge

Hosea 6:3 NKJV

3Let us know,

Let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord.

His going forth is established as the morning;

He will come to us like the rain,

Like the latter and former rain to the earth.

Luke 14:27 NKJV

27And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.

Often time people follow Jesus for the blessings been when it is time to carry the cross they run away.

People want the best of both worlds.

2)Spiritual Light

John 8:12 NKJV

12Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

3)Guidance

John 10:27 NKJV

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me

4)Heavenly Honor

John 12:26 NKJV

If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.

For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:

PROBLEM

How close do we follow, and how consistently do we follow

Luke 22:54-55

54Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off.

55And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.

FOLLOWED AT A DISTANCE

WENT to the wrong light, glow of a fire.

Looking for warmth or comfort.

Went into the middle of the hall where everybody else was

looking for acceptance.

We can compromise our convictions

Beautiful thing is that even after Peter failed Jesus offered forgiveness
