Christmas Advent
Contributed by Rev. Bruce A. Shields on Nov 12, 2004 (message contributor)
Summary: This outline gives an example for holding the Advent lightnig ni your church over the course of 4 weeks with the lighting of the 5th candle on your Christmas eve service.
Christmas 2005 Advent
Advent is Latin for Arrival. This refers to the arrival of our Lord and Savior.
The advent wreath represents God’s unending love for us, and the holly branches represent our everlasting life with Jesus Christ.
We light one candle, reading the Advent passage for that candle, at each Sunday service before the Christmas Eve service where we will light the middle candle.
1st candle represents hope and is lit on November 28th
2nd candle represents faith and is lit on December 5th
3rd candle represents joy and is lit on December 12th
4th candle represents peace and is lit on December 19th
The white candle in the center represents the birth of Christ and is lit at the Christmas Eve service.
Have a family stand and recite what THEY feel about each subject before they light the candle.
i.e. “We feel that our hope lies in Christ’s return and the coming of eternity with Him”
