PEOPLE NEED JESUS

We all have one thing in common today. We have needs. And because we have needs we seek to meet those needs.

We need security. We need jobs. We need food. We need relationships. We need direction. We need hope. We need faith. We need trust. No matter who you are we are needy. And seeing that we have needs we are going to look to fill those needs.

Hungry we go eat. Thirsty we go get something to drink. Tired we rest. Money we work. Not everyone goes about getting their needs met like God would have them and that goes for Christians as well. If we are not careful we can slip back into depending on ourselves rather than depending on God. We look to men to the minister to “fix” all of our problems. We look to the teen minister to “fix” our kids and when we are looking to them and there are problems and they are not “fixed” then you have attitudes with the leadership. Get this straight. There’s not a man or woman on earth that is going to “fix” all of your problems. Christians can be so humanistic at times it’s downright ungodly. What Christians need is more of God and less of men. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that you don’t need men. I am saying that you need more dependence on Christ if your tendency is to look to men as your savior. There’s only one Savior and he died on a cross! One of the first lessons that Jesus taught his disciples is how to get their needs met not from men but from God.

PT 1: DO NOT WORRY

Mat 6:25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?

Mat 6:26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Mat 6:27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life ?

Mat 6:28 "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.

Mat 6:29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

Mat 6:30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

Mat 6:31 So do not worry, saying, ’What shall we eat?’ or ’What shall we drink?’ or ’What shall we wear?’

Mat 6:32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

Mat 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Mat 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

He tells them first do not worry about your life. Don’t worry about your going to eat, drink or wear. He also told them:

(Mark 13:11 NIV) Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.

(Luke 12:11 NIV) "When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say."

But Jesus we have needs how are we going to get them met? Seek first the kingdom and my righteousness. Be concerned about my kingdom, my purposes, my righteousness and my will. Put me first. Walk with me. Pray to me. Depend on me. Believe in me. Have faith in me. Trust me.

Now if you’re not seeking Christ to meet your needs or the need then you need to worry because it’s up to you. You’ve got to do it. You’ve got to figure it out. You’ve got to have the all the answers.

Jesus made an illustration about a pagan. A pagan is a heathen; someone who did not acknowledge Jehovah God. He says the pagans run after all these things.

They have a need. They run to get it filled. Their lives consist of running after things but there’s a problem. They are not depending on God to get their needs filled. They depend on themselves to get it done. When you depend on yourself to get it done then the pressures on you and when the pressures on a lot is revealed. You worry, you fret, you manipulate, you scheme. You do whatever you need to do, to get the need filled. Why? Because your god and you’ve got to do it. There’s a difference between running after the need to get it filled and running to God to get it filled.
