Christ the Redeemer

Each of us have many different names or titles we go by. Mother, Father, Grandma, Grandpa, Foreman, Teacher, Preacher, Aunt, Uncle, Laborer, Musician, Singer, Entertainer, Speaker, etc. I compiled a list of some of the titles that I have, mother, a wife, a daughter, a granddaughter, a sister, a church member, a graduate, and an aunt, just to name a few. These are titles that the world gives me, however, God has also given me some titles. He calls me…

His child. John 1:12

His workmanship

His friend John 15:15

A branch of the true vine. John 15:1-5

Ambassador Eph 6:20

Salt and Light of the Earth Matt 5:13-14

New Creation 2 Cor 5:17

Temple of God I Cor 3:16

A Personal Witness for Christ Acts 1:8

Member of His Body I Cor 12:27

Powerful 2 Tim 1:7

Citizen of Heaven Phil 3:20

Healed Isa 53:5

Complete Col 2:10

Sanctified I Cor 1:30

Intercessor I Tim 2:1

Redeemed Col 1:14

This list makes me feel special and you know what, I am. I am special to Christ, but not any more special than you because if you have received Jesus as your savior you are all those things too.

Not only is it important to know who I am, but who is Christ to me.

God has many titles. I have a book that is titled the 101 Names of God and I have really enjoyed the book. Let me give you some examples of who God is.

EL SHADDAI: God Almighty or "God All Sufficient."

JEHOVAH:

Yahweh,

SHEPHERD:

JUDGE:

Alpha and Omega

Savior

Lord

Redeemer

Father

Counselor

Everlasting King

I actually found a list on the internet of over 600.

But Redeemer is my favorite. I found my self singing a song about my redeemer and I realized I didn’t really understand.

Redeemer. How many sang songs and didn’t know what redeemer even meant.

Redeem

1. To recover ownership of by paying a specified sum.

2. To pay off (a promissory note, for example).

3. To turn in (coupons, for example) and receive something in exchange.

4. To fulfill (a pledge, for example).

5. To convert into cash: redeem stocks.

6. To set free; rescue or ransom.

7. To save from a state of sinfulness and its consequences. See Synonyms at save1.

8. To make up for: The low price of the clothes dryer redeems its lack of special features.

9. To restore the honor, worth, or reputation of: You botched the last job but can redeem yourself on this one.

Redeemer

Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed [is] every one that hangeth on a tree:

Gal 3:14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

The word redeemed is first mentioned in the bible.

Exodus 6:6 Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I [am] the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:

He told them he would redeem them but listen to what he goes on to say.

Exodus 6:7 And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I [am] the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

Exodus 6:8 And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage: I [am] the LORD.

God is still in the redeeming business. I love redeemer because when God redeems us from evil, he always replaces that with good. Exodus redeemed from bondage and replaces with an inheritance of land. (Land of Milk and Honey)

In order to fully appreciate God as our Redeemer we must understand what he has redeemed us from.

What has he redeemed up from? Gal said the curse of the law.

Curse of the law. Deut 28:15 - 68 All that is under the curse.

Highlights of the curse:

You’ll be cursed everywhere you go.

You’ll never have enough of what you need.

You’ll be diseased unto death.

You’ll have no rain

Your enemies will overcome you.

You’ll be an object of horror in other words people will look at your life and be horrified.

You’ll not succeed in anything you do.

You’ll build houses and not live in them.

You’ll plant vineyards, but won’t enjoy the fruit.

You’ll suffer under constant oppression and harsh treatment
