Christ: Our Peace
Contributed by Danny Moss on Mar 19, 2003 (message contributor)
Summary: In light of terrorist threats, possible nuclear war, the threat of economic collapse, and denuci- ation of Christians and Christian values, we des- perately need peace with God.
CHRIST:OUR PEACE
Text-Ephesians 2:14
"For he is our peace..."
Introduction-
We are now living in one of the most trying times
our nation has ever faced. There are threats of
terrorist activities in our homeland, fears of
nuclear war globally, and increasing denuciation
of Christians and Christian values. Many American
families have loved ones "in harm’s way" in Iraq,
and never have we sensed such a loss of the feeling
of safety and security. Yet, these are also times
for Christianity to triumph, and for Christians to
bear a bold witness to our Lord, and His saving
grace. In Him, we have peace.
It ought to be evident that we cannot find peace
in science, scientists predict nothing but gloom
if global war should occur. There is no peace in
technology, for our greatest gadgets might fail
to provide us any protection. There is no peace
in new age philosophies, or humanistic ideology.
There is One and only One who can give us peace,
and that is Christ.
He is the Prince of Peace. He holds the world in
His hands, and He has unlimited power. In John
14:27, when Jesus was about to leave this earth,
and return to His Father, He spoke these words
to His disciples:
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you:
not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not
your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
1.We can find peace in our relationship with Him, if
we know Him by faith.
Luke 7:50-"And he said unto the woman, ’Thy faith
hath sasved thee; go in peace.’"
Our souls are always in urest until they rest in
Jesus. He is our peace. He can give us a calm
in the midst of the storms of our life that no
other can.
Colossians 1:20-"And having made peace through the
blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things
unto himself;..."
Romans 5:1-"Therefore being justified by faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus
Christ."
2.We can have peace through his words, for in his
Word we find hope and assurance.
John 16:33-"These things have I spoken unto you,
that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye
shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I
have overcome the world."
1st Thessalonians 4:16-17
"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven
with a shout, with the voice of the archangel
and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ
shall rise first: Then we which are alive and
remain shall be caught up together with them
in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air, and
so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore
comfort one another with these words."
Everything may be caving in around us, gloom and
despair may fill the airwaves, but in Him, we have
peace.
3.We can have peace and comfort through His Holy
Spirit.
"Then had the churches rest throughout all Judea
and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and
walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort
of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied."
Yes, peace seems to have vacated our world, but
with Christ in our hearts, we can have peace with
God, a peace that passes all understanding(Philipp-
ians 4:7). His peace does not come and go, it
settles deep within our hearts and souls. How
desperately our world today needs to look to Him,
and in Him, find peace.
Invitation-My friend, if you do not have peace in
your heart right now, Christ can give it to you.
He can be that to you, come what may. I encourage
you to come to Christ in faith, believing in Him,
and trusting Him as your Saviour.
