Summary: Jesus rides into a town claiming He is the Chosen One.

The Chosen One Luke 19:26-40

." Jesus chooses to enter Jerusalem this time mounted on a donkey to claim publicly that he was the chosen Son of David to

sit on David's throne (1Ki 1:33,44), Solomon who would be King also rode in on the Kings Donkey

Jesus is the Chosen One ,

the one of whom the prophets had spoken (Zec 9:9).

9Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your kingB comes to you,

righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

1. The Chosen one slays the enemies with Sacrifice instead of Sword

Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey instead of a war horse

The people looked for a political leader who would overthrow the Romans. . . Their shout "Hosanna" meant "save now." Palm Branches meant victory or goodness also palm branches were inscribed on many buildings .

1 Kings 6:29On the walls all around the temple, in both the inner and outer rooms, he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers.

2. The Chosen one rides in with humility to make peace instead of war

Paul said this 8And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself

and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!

The chosen one desired Peace instead of the sword

A. Because he is the Prince of peace

Isaiah said 6For to us a child is born, And he will be called Wonderful Counselor,B Mighty God,

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

B. Because He Desires for all to find Peace God wants us all to be objects of His good pleasure

14"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."

C. The Chosen One slays Problems with Peace not with sword

John 14: 27Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.

Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

3. The chosen one slays the enemies by laying down His life instead of Rising up

A. Jesus conquered by love enough to die

Mark says 10: . 45For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

B. Jesus conquered by becoming a sacrificial Lamb

Isaiah 7He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,

and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

C. Jesus conquered by nailing our sins to the cross

Colossians 2:14having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us;

he took it away, nailing it to the cross.

4. The Chosen one slays the enemy of Discouragement by Resurrection

A. His Resurrection removes discouragement we have Hope

Paul says it this way 1 Corinthians 15: 16For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17And if Christ has

not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. 19If only for

this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men.

20But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.

B. The Chosen one slays the enemy of Division the great divide

Romans 10:9That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved

C. His resurrection removes anything that can diminish (weakens) or destroy the believer

Acts 3:26 26When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways."

5. The Chosen one Invites you and I to Follow Him

Let us join Christ in his saving work

Let is join Christ in self-giving love

Let us join Christ in comforting the hurting cry for the dying

Let us join Christ in welcoming the needy, the homeless, the forgotten or cared less about ones

Let us Join Christ in fellowshipping with those that are isolated because of what ever
