Summary: In this sermon, we'll explore few biblical examples of how God's anointing can provoke demonic irritation.
As believers, we are often unaware of the spiritual battles that rage around us. When God anoints us for a particular purpose or ministry, it can stir up opposition from the enemy. In this sermon, we'll explore few biblical examples of how God's anointing can provoke demonic irritation.
1. David and King Saul (1 Samuel 16:14-23, 18:10-11)
After God anointed David to succeed Saul as king, a tormenting spirit began to disturb Saul. This demonic presence was a direct result of God's anointing on David, which threatened Saul's position and power. Saul's jealousy and anger towards David intensified, demonstrating how demonic forces can manipulate human emotions to oppose God's anointed.
2. Jesus and the Pharisees (Matthew 12:22-32, Mark 3:22-30)
When Jesus healed a demon-possessed man, the Pharisees attributed His power to Beelzebub, the prince of demons. Jesus responded by explaining that a house divided against itself cannot stand, implying that Satan's kingdom would not be strengthened by Jesus' exorcisms. This encounter illustrates how Jesus' anointing and ministry provoked opposition from both human and demonic forces.
3. Paul and the Slave Girl (Acts 16:16-18)
In Philippi, a slave girl with a spirit of divination began to follow Paul and Silas, crying out, "These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation." Paul, annoyed by her persistent cries, cast out the demon in Jesus' name. This event demonstrates how demonic forces can attempt to disrupt or hijack God's anointed ministry.
4. Daniel and the Prince of Persia (Daniel 10:1-13)
Daniel's prayer and fasting prompted a heavenly response, but a demonic entity, the Prince of Persia, resisted the angelic messenger for 21 days. This spiritual battle delayed the answer to Daniel's prayer, illustrating how demonic forces can oppose God's anointed servants and hinder their progress.
5. Jesus in the Wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11, Luke 4:1-13)
After Jesus' baptism, the Holy Spirit led Him into the wilderness to be tempted by Satan. This confrontation was a direct result of God's anointing on Jesus, marking the beginning of His public ministry. Jesus' victory over Satan's temptations demonstrated His authority and power, foreshadowing His ultimate triumph over the forces of darkness.
In conclusion, when God anoints us for a specific purpose or ministry, it can provoke opposition from demonic forces. These biblical examples illustrate how God's anointing can stir up demonic irritation, leading to spiritual battles and opposition. As believers, we must be aware of these dynamics and stand firm in our faith, trusting in God's power and authority to overcome the forces of darkness.
