Summary: Does Roman Catholicism contradict Biblical Christianity?

To some people Roman Catholicism is just another Christian Church. Sure there are some differences after all they focus more on Mary and they pray to the Saints. They follow the teachings of the Pope while other professing Christians do not. A Roman Catholic Bible even has more books that our Bible doesn't! Is the Roman Catholic Church the only true church like they claim? How can we know for sure and where should we turn to see what the Lord actually said? Lets compare Roman Catholicism to what the Bible says!

Catholics are instructed to call the priest “Father”

“Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven” – Matthew 23:9

Priest claim to have the power to forgive sin

“who can forgive sins but God alone?” – Mark 2:7

Catholics bow and pray in front of statues

“You shall not make for yourself a carved image… you shall not bow down to them” – Exodus 20:4-5

The Catholic Church teaches, you are saved by faith AND works

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” – Ephesians 2:8-9

When praying the Rosary, the same prayers are offered again and again and again….

“And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do” – Matthew 6:7

The Catholic Church teaches purgatory

“We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord”

-2 Corinthians 5:7

The Catholic Church teaches the Pope is the head of the church

“And He (Christ) is the head of the body, the church” – Colossians 1:18

The Catholic Church teaches Mary remained a virgin for life

“Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” – Mark 6:3

Catholics refer to Mary as the Queen of Heaven

“The children gather wood, the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven; and they pour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke Me to anger.” – Jeremiah 7:18

The Catholic Church teaches people ought to pray to Mary and the “Saints”

“For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus” – 1 Timothy 2:5

The Catholic Church forbids priest and bishops to marry

“If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife…” – 1 Timothy 3:1-2

The Catholic Church has taught certain foods are not to be eaten on certain days

“Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.” – 1 Timothy 4:1-3

Finally lets take a look at Revelation 17 and see if this has any connection to Rome, after all Rome is the city that sits on 7 hills (Revelation 17:9).
