Carry the wood.
Genesis 22:6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.
7 And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?
8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.
Most of the time I wake up during the wee hours of the morning and study as I have now for many years. In fact, it's one of those times as I write this Newsletter.
One morning this week I awoke and turned on the TV and watched a animated version of Abraham and Isaac on TBN while I had my first cup of coffee of the day. We all know the story and what a great documentary of faith by the great man of faith Abraham.
Let's look at a few facts that you may or may not know about this great event in God's word. This is of course a comparison of the relationship between Jesus and God the Father and what He did for us at Calvary.
Genesis 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will show thee:
God told Abram to go from thy father's house, and go unto a land I show thee. Jesus left His home in Heaven or His Father's house to come to this land we live on called Earth for a purpose.
What was that purpose? Genesis 12:2 says, And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
The Bible says in Philippians2:10-11 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Look at verse 6 of Genesis chapter 22 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.
Isaac was obedient in doing what Abraham ask. Isaac carried the wood because Abraham his father laid it upon him.
Jesus carried His wood in the form of a wooden cross in obedience to God the Father. The Bible says in that verse he took the fire in his hand, and a knife. The fire here speaks of judgment, and the knife speaks of the execution of judgment and of sacrifice.
Verse 8 says, And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering. Verse 13 tells us that shortly after this there was a ram that was caught in the thicket by his horns, and Abraham got that ram and offered it. Abraham says that God will provide Himself a lamb. But there was no lamb there; it was a ram, and there is a distinction. The Lamb was not provided until much later when John the Baptist identified Him, saying, “… Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world in John 1:29.
Genesis 22:2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, .......John 3:16 says: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life....................Aint ya glad He did?
