CAN KNOWLEDGE SAVE YOU? 10/3/04

1 Tim 4:16

16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee .

I want to know Jesus. There is so much more that I do not know.

I hand tracts to people and say "let me share Jesus with you."

Could I really share knowledge about Him that could make a difference in their lives? Could you?

Could you share, in words, how Jesus responds to your loneliness, sadness, sickness, anger, and fear?

If you cannot then I believe that you do not know Him as you should.

Knowing what to do at the right time can save you from a lot more work, save you from disaster, or even save someone’s life or your own, but can knowledge and it’s application save your soul?

John 14:4-7

whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? (Jesus begins to share this knowledge)

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (The way to life is through truth. We’ve got to know the truth.)

7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

Luke 14:16-18

16 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:

17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.

18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse.

My responsibility is to teach you, to the best of my knowledge, about Jesus, but failure on my part to teach you everything about Christ does not get you off the hook.

If you own a Bible, please raise your hand.

To tell God that you just didn’t know will be no excuse.

So what is your point? My point is that I want you to know Christ as if He physically lives with you. Goes to work, school, grocery store, barber shop, beauty salon, church, and vacations. So, everywhere you are, He is there also.

Why? So, that you can please Him and live a life of holiness before Him.

Lack of knowledge will be no excuse.

Matt 11:29

Jesus said, “ Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me;”

Some of us have live the Christian life for a long time, but have we learned by His example?

He showed compassion, do we?

He loved sinners, do we?

He gave, do we?

He forgave, do we?

He went about doing good, do we?

He was obedient, are we?

He prayed, do we?

He fasted, do we?

He resisted temptation, do we?

He hates sin, do we?

Do we have this kind of knowledge?

2 Tim 2:15

15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Ps 119:11

11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Do you know what sin is, what grieves the heart of God? Read your Bible.

Rom 3:20

for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

If you want to know whether or not that you are living right, you must know what He desires for your life. And that is found in the Bible.

We are encouraged to grow in knowledge.

I know my wife better than anyone. We are intimate.

Phil 3:10

Paul said, “ That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings,”

Phil 3:8

8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

Phil 1:9

9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;

Col 1:9-10

9 For this cause we do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

2 Peter 3:18

18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Eph 4:13

13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
