Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
This sermon explores the concept of trust in the context of God's kingdom, emphasizing the importance of faithfulness in small and big matters, and reflecting on the consequences of broken trust.
Our passage today has a lot to do with trust… Where it’s placed, where it’s misplaced, and what can happen when trust is broken.
We’ve all got stories like this one as trust is one of those pillars of life that helps keep the world going ‘round. We trust that the sun will come up tomorrow, we trust that there will be enough oxygen, water, and food. We trust that people will obey traffic signs and signals when we drive around town. Trust is a currency that we’re all familiar with, even if it’s not something that we think about very often.
So, with that in mind, when's the last time you thought about trusting God? Given the chaotic and fast paced world we live in, chances are good that it’s been fairly recent. But here’s the real question of the day; Can God trust you?
This is a difficult question to answer. Many of us don’t even trust ourselves, so how could God trust what we don’t? And yet, for some reason God’s plan was and continues to be one where he uses fallible people like you and I to build the church, share the gospel, and be ambassadors of reconciliation to a lost and hurting world. He’s been using imperfect people for thousands of years, and as we’re going to see today, he’s got a few things to say about why trust matters just as much today as it did two thousand years ago.
Can God trust you?
Our main passage today is Luke 16:1-13, which comes from a larger portion of scripture where Jesus is doing a lot of teaching through stories called parables. Our particular parable today is often referred to as The Parable of the Shrewd Manager. One of the first and primary lessons of this parable is that little things matter.
Sounds like this manager is in some trouble… and sounds like He’s got some explaining to do ... View this full sermon with PRO Premium
