Summary: Caleb

Joshua 14:6–15; 15:13-14 Caleb was a foreigner by birth;

I. Caleb Knew a Surrendered Life I wholly followed the LORD my God

a. There was the Opposition to His Surrender - 8 Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt:

The Presence of Unbelief - my brethren that went up with me

The Prevalence of Unbelief - made the heart of the people melt:

The Power of Unbelief - 6 concerning me and thee in Kadeshbarnea. - Canaan - Rejected.

The Plague of Unbelief - 10 And now, behold, the LORD hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years.

The Rest perished in the wilderness of Unbelief.

b. The Affirmation of His Surrender

Caleb could say, “… I wholly followed the Lord my God”

A Personnal Commitment - but I - A Perfect Commitment - wholly

A Practical Commitment - followed the LORD

A Powerful Commitment - the LORD my God.

c. The Attestation of His Surrender

Moses could say, “… He wholly followed the Lord” 9 And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children’s for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the LORD my God.

The Tribute - 9 And Moses sware on that day, The Truth - Surely

The Treasure - Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance - (The portion meant for all the spies)

The Testimony - because thou hast wholly followed the LORD my God

d. The Acclamation of His Surrender

God could say, “… He wholly followed the Lord” 14 Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel

II. Caleb Knew a Sustained Life - 10 And now, behold, the LORD hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the LORD spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old.

Caleb was Spared from :-

(a) Discouragement 8 Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the LORD my God

William Jennings Bryan said: “Never be afraid to stand with the minority which is right, for the minority which is right will one day be the majority; always be afraid to stand with the majority which is wrong, for the majority which is wrong will one day be the minority.”

(b) Doubt Heb 3:18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?

19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

(c) Death - Num. 14:36 And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land, 37 Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD. 38 But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.

III. Caleb Knew a Supported Life - 11 As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.

Ch 15:14 And Caleb drove thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

There is the Giant of Lustful :- 1. Passions 2. Pleasures 3. Powers

17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

IV. Caleb Knew a Satisfied Life - 13 And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.

The Satisfaction of Spiritual:- 1. Prosperity 13 And Joshua blessed him,

2. Possessions 13 gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance

3. Peace 15 And the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.
