Preach Christmas week
Emphasizes the importance of choosing the narrow, challenging path of true belief, bearing good fruits, and being wary of false prophets, as guided by Jesus' teachings in the Sermon on the Mount.
Good morning, brothers and sisters. I bet you've all heard the saying, "The road less traveled is often the most rewarding." It calls to mind a sense of challenge, doesn't it? A call to venture beyond the ordinary, to embrace the difficult for the sake of the extraordinary. This concept isn't new to us. In fact, Jesus Himself pointed us to it in the Sermon on the Mount.
The narrow path of true believers is a path that demands sacrifice, commitment, and a relentless pursuit of righteousness. The narrow path is not for the faint-hearted. It is for those who are willing to forsake all else for the sake of following Christ. It is a path that is often fraught with trials and tribulations, but it is also the path that leads to eternal life.
Not physical: When Jesus spoke of the narrow gate and the narrow road in Matthew 7:13-14, He was not speaking of a physical path or a literal gate. Rather, He was speaking of a spiritual journey, a way of life that is marked by a deep and abiding faith in God. This path is narrow because it is not the path that the majority of people choose to follow. It is a path that requires us to go against the grain, to swim upstream, to march to the beat of a different drum.
A path of obedience: It is a path that requires us to submit to the will of God, even when His will is not in line with our own desires or expectations. It is a path that demands that we surrender our own will and our own plans in favor of God's will and God's plans. This path of obedience is not always easy. It often requires us to make difficult choices and to make sacrifices. But it is also a path that leads to true freedom and true joy.
A path of love: It is a path that calls us to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. This love is not a superficial or sentimental love. It is a deep, sacrificial love that is willing to lay down one's life for the sake of others. This love is not something that we can manufacture on our own. It is a love that is birthed in us by the Holy Spirit as we walk in obedience to God's commands.
A path of transformation: It is a path that leads us to become more and more like Christ. As we walk this path, we are gradually transformed into the image of Christ. We begin to think like Him, to feel like Him, to act like Him. This transformation is not something that happens overnight. It is a lifelong process that requires patience, perseverance, and a lot of grace.
A path of hope: It is a path that leads us to a future that is filled with promise and potential. It is a path that assures us of God's unfailing love and His unending faithfulness. It is a path that gives us the confidence to face the challenges of life with courage and conviction.
A path that is worth pursuing: It is a path that leads to life in all its fullness. It is a path that leads to a relationship with God that is rich, rewarding, and deeply satisfying.
