BY HIS STRIPES-V—Isaiah 52:13—53:1-12

OR: God’s Remedy For Sin

Attention:

No opener!

Background:

~700 years prior to the Cross of Christ Jesus, Isaiah prophesied of the substitutionary atonement which would one day come thru God’s “Servant”(52:13a). Isaiah records details of the coming Servant’s willing sacrifice for the sake of all sinners.

The prophet Isaiah declared a future time when God’s unique Servant would provide the remedy for sin.

Jesus is God’s remedy for sin.

Why/How/When is Jesus God’s remedy for sin?

Our reception of Jesus as God’s remedy for personal sin.

‘RECEIVE’—More than mental acceptance, which only makes possibilities plausible. ‘Receiving’ has to do with acceptance by the heart, so that what is received, is taken to the point of actual reliance upon what or Who is received.

INSTRUMENTATION(53:1b)

Explanation:(53:1b)The Arm of the Lord/Agent/Agency

53:1—“Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?”

“And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?”

“The arm of the LORD is the disclosure of His power.”—EBC

*Jesus, God’s unique “Servant” & Son, is the ‘instrument’/means/way—“the arm”—of God’s power to save!

2Kgs. 19:31-34—“For out of Jerusalem shall go a remnant, And those who escape from Mount Zion. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.’ “Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the king of Assyria: ‘He shall not come into this city, Nor shoot an arrow there, Nor come before it with shield, Nor build a siege mound against it. By the way that he came, By the same shall he return; And he shall not come into this city,’ Says the LORD. ‘For I will defend this city, to save it For My own sake & for My servant David’s sake.’”

Isa. 9:6-7—“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government & peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David & over His kingdom, To order it & establish it with judgment & justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”

God’s Christ(‘Anointed One’) is “the arm of the LORD.”

Jn. 12:34-41—“The people answered Him, “We have heard from the law that the Christ remains forever; & how can You say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this Son of Man?” Then Jesus said to them, “A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” These things Jesus spoke, & departed, & was hidden from them. But although He had done so many signs before them, they did not believe in Him, that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke: “Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?” Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again: “He has blinded their eyes & hardened their hearts, Lest they should see with their eyes, Lest they should understand with their hearts & turn, So that I should heal them.” These things Isaiah said when he saw His glory & spoke of Him.”

Only in the coming Servant is there ‘Good News’ or a ‘Gospel’ at all!

So in the Gospel(AKA-‘Good News’) the power of God’s reconciliation thru Christ is seen & experienced. The Good News is thus one aspect of “the arm of the Lord.”

Ps. 119:46—“I will speak of Your testimonies also before kings, And will not be ashamed.”

Rom. 1:16-17—“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first & also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.””

'Technically' speaking, “the arm of the Lord” has been “revealed” to & for ALL people...

BUT 'practically' speaking(functional/utilitarian) the Lord’s power to save, secure, & empower is only “revealed” to those who will ‘hear’(or accept) God’s truth—thru faith to faith contact! “The arm of the Lord” is that actual truth/plan/design which God Himself has “revealed” to the world—1)thru Adam & Eve & ‘pre-Israel’, 2)thru Israel, 3) thru Christ, 4)thru God’s people.

Mat. 11:16-26—“But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces & calling to their companions, “& saying: ‘We played the flute for you, And you did not dance; We mourned to you, And you did not lament.’ “For John came neither eating nor drinking, & they say, ‘He has a demon.’ “The Son of Man came eating & drinking, & they say, ‘Look, a glutton & a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors & sinners!’ But wisdom is justified by her children.” Then He began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent: “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre & Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth & ashes.” But I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre & Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades; for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. But I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you.” At that time Jesus answered & said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven & earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise & prudent & have revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.”
