BUILDING A WALL AROUND THE CHURCH
Nehemiah 6:15-16
INTRO: As Nehemiah went about the task of building the wall around
Jerusalem he met several types of opposition.
The Church faces the same opposition today from the world, and we need. to build some walls around ourselves to protect us from the world.
I. OPPOSITION BY RIDICULE.
A. Nehemiah met ridicule as he was building.
B. He answers by prayer.
C. The Church faces the ridicule of the world.
D. Let her answer by prayer.
II. OPPOSITION BY ANGER.
A. Just as Nehemiah faced. anger, so must the Church.
B. He answered again by prayer. So must we.
III. OPPOSITION BY DISCOURAGEMENT.
A. There is much discouragement in our Churches.
B. Nehemiah overcame this opposition by faith.
IV. OPPOSITION BY GREED AND HEARTLESSNESS.
A. People told Nehemiah there were too many other things to be con
cerned. about.
B. Does greed enter into our lives, and cause us to forsake God?
C. Nehemiah responds with an example of unselfishness.
V. OPPOSITION. BY CRAFTINESS.
A. The opponents tried to stop the building by doing away with
Nehemiah.
B. Nehemiah overcomes this opposition by the use of firmness.
CONC: We need high, strong walls to surround and protect our Church from
the world.
Not physical walls like Nehemiah built, but spiritual walls that God can build from dedicated lives.
