INTRODUCTION:
Divine favour is a powerful force that enables a person to rise above limitations, delays, and human resistance. It is more than mere approval—it is a supernatural endorsement by God that positions one for distinction. Favour breaks protocol, unlocks doors, and causes others to assist you even without knowing why.
Barriers are obstacles placed by men, systems, or the enemy to hinder progress. But when the favour of God comes upon a person, every opposition becomes a stepping stone to destiny. Where others are ignored, the favoured are selected. Where others struggle, the favoured succeed.
In this sermon, we will explore how divine favour breaks barriers in the life of a believer, and how to attract, sustain, and walk in that favour. Like Esther, Joseph, and Daniel, you too can be empowered by favour to enter places that were once closed to you.
1. FAVOUR DISTINGUISHES AND SELECTS THE CHOSEN
Favour marks a person out for honour beyond natural qualifications.
a) Favour Separates You for Elevation (Esther 2:17)
Esther, though a foreigner and orphan, was selected as queen because of divine favour.
b) Favour Makes You Preferred Above Others (Daniel 1:9)
Daniel received kindness and favour even in captivity.
c) Favour Turns Rejection into Acceptance (Psalm 102:13)
When God’s set time to favour comes, men cannot resist it.
d) Favour Establishes God's Hand on a Person (Psalm 5:12)
The righteous are encompassed with favour as with a shield.
Biblical Example: Joseph rose from prison to the palace because the Lord gave him favour in the sight of Pharaoh (Genesis 39:21; 41:39-44).
2. FAVOUR BREAKS PROTOCOLS AND OPENS CLOSED DOORS
What takes others years can be achieved speedily by favour.
a) Favour Overrides Human Systems (Exodus 3:21)
God gave Israel favour in the eyes of the Egyptians, and they left with wealth.
b) Favour Cancels Delays and Accelerates Destiny (Luke 1:30–31)
Mary was favoured to carry Christ—no human effort could explain it.
c) Favour Breaks Cultural and Traditional Limitations (Ruth 2:10-13)
Ruth, a Moabite, found favour and became part of the lineage of Christ.
d) Favour is the Key to Supernatural Access (Revelation 3:8)
When God opens a door by favour, no man can shut it.
Biblical Example: Esther entered the king’s inner court uninvited and was accepted because of favour (Esther 5:2).
3. FAVOUR POSITIONS YOU FOR PROMOTION AND INFLUENCE
Favour is a divine elevator—it lifts you to strategic positions.
a) Favour Connects You to Destiny Helpers (Genesis 41:14)
Joseph was remembered and elevated through the favour of God.
b) Favour Brings Honour in the Midst of Adversity (Psalm 30:5-7)
Even weeping seasons are temporary for the favoured.
c) Favour Opens Access to Royalty and Influence (Proverbs 22:11)
He who loves purity and has grace on his lips will be the king’s friend.
d) Favour Turns Ordinary Individuals into Global Voices (Luke 2:52)
Jesus grew in wisdom and favour with God and men.
Biblical Example: Nehemiah found favour with King Artaxerxes to rebuild Jerusalem (Nehemiah 2:4-8).
4. ATTRACTING AND WALKING IN DIVINE FAVOUR
Favour is not automatic—it is attracted through spiritual principles.
a) Obedience and Holiness Invite Favour (Isaiah 1:19)
Willing and obedient hearts eat the good of the land.
b) Honour and Humility Draw Favour (Proverbs 3:3-4)
Let love and faithfulness never leave you—this brings favour.
c) Seeking God and His Presence Releases Favour (Psalm 119:58)
The more you seek His face, the more His favour rests on you.
d) Praying for Favour Brings Open Heavens (Psalm 90:17)
We must ask God to establish the work of our hands with His favour.
Biblical Example: Samuel walked in obedience and found favour with both God and men (1 Samuel 2:26).
CONCLUSION:
The barriers of life are real, but they are no match for the power of divine favour. When God's favour is upon your life, doors open, chains break, and protocols shift in your favour. Like Esther, Joseph, and Nehemiah, God is able to lift you above your limitations.
Favour is not earned by effort; it is received through alignment with God’s will, character, and purpose. Seek His presence, honour His Word, and favour will follow you. You are not meant to remain behind the barriers—by favour, you shall break through.
