Summary: The book of life is the heavenly record (God’s Book). Christ Himself determines whether the names that are recorded in the book of life remain in that record and are supported by His confession that they belong to Him at the day of judgment.
BOOK OF LIFE
I. The book of life is the heavenly record (God’s Book)
A. Those who have received Christ as Saviour have their names in God's book and we can rejoice.
Luke 10:20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
II. His book has the names of those who are destined because of God's grace and their faithfulness to participate in God's heavenly kingdom
Isa 62:2 ............and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name.
A. Marge’s friend had a vision or dream and was in heaven and looked in the Book of Life but could not find her name, then she knew why, because God had given her a new name.
Rev 3:12 ……….and I will write upon him my new name.
III. Only the Redeemed of the Lord will enter in,
Rev 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.
IV. The book of life will be used along with the books of judgment at the final judgment to separate the righteous and the wicked .
Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. Rev 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Christ Himself determines whether the names that are recorded in the book of life remain in that record and are supported by His confession that they belong to Him at the day of judgment. So let us be sure that we have confessed Jesus and have received Him in our hearts.
