Summary: Getting the victory of strongholds.

Sermon 3/03/2013 Bondage Breakers Pt. 1

A stronghold is an area of darkness within our mind or personality that causes ongoing spiritual, emotional and\or behavioral problems. A stronghold is a lie that we have allowed to distort or confuse our thinking. With our permission, a lie can gain control over our emotions and our behavior. If we allow a lie to reside within, then that lie, like a seed, will produce its fruit, which will distort the way we see and think. The fruit of an inward lie will ultimately affect our faith and interfere with our ability to possess the truths of the Gospel and our “Promised Life.”

Luke 4:16-21 (NLT)

18 “The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, 19 and that the time of the LORD’s favor has come.

Some types of Strongholds: Lust & Immorality, Anger & Violence, Depression & Anxiety, Fear & Doubt, Pride & Self – Hate, Greed & Theft, Unforgiveness, Relationships

Some sources of Strongholds: Childhood Hurts, Life Experiences, Prior & Current Relationships, Drugs & Alcohol, Family Dynamics, Personal & Generational Sins

Key Points: 2 Samuel 5:6-10 David Captures Jerusalem Stronghold

1) GO UNDER the water is the first step in breaking bondages/strongholds in your life. The Holy Spirit is the water & you must be both born of & filled with Him to experience true freedom. “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” (2 Cor. 3:17)

“Already been to the water, already been baptized, already been converted, I feel alright!”

Matthew 11

12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. (YOU must be willing to fight for your freedom and to possess your “promised life” even after God’s showed it to you!)

2) PULL DOWN (partitions built up in mind to keep truth out) it done through prayer. These walls are like circus mirrors, designed to distort the true image of you God created, and to keep you walking in confusion and circles.

2 Corinthians 10 (NKJV) The Spiritual War

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds

Beware of your own, personal, Jebusites who will mock you until you show you’re serious.

3) KEEP SWINGING (GODSWORD) (mythical sword thought to have supernatural strength when handled properly with ability to cut through toughest armor and chains!) We have the non-mythical weapon, GODS/WORD (Eph 6:17 Sword of the Spirit). It is an offensive and defensive weapon that requires it be handled properly. You have to study it so you can use it properly and powerfully, “It is written…” A Christian without the Word is like a Pitt Bull without teeth, “All bark and no bite!” The enemy’s not moved by our cries nor our complaints, but by God’s Word, in the mouth and heart of people who really believe and live it!
