Bloodwork (Pt 3) The Power Series
Contributed by Delray Lentz on Nov 19, 2025 (message contributor)
Summary: Good morning church! What did you learn new this week in Gods’ Word?
Why did the power leave Jesus?
I believe that if any person believes or thinks they fully understand all of scripture, they may just be fooling themselves.
For me personally, I catch glimpses of His glory, very small pieces at a time.
Only hours before Jesus was persecuted and crucified, He told his disciples “I still have many things to tell you, but you cannot bear them now” John 16:12.
In the verses prior, He can sense the disciples are getting overwhelmed as He begins to explain the work of the Holy Spirit.
Do you ever feel overwhelmed with Gods glory? Sometimes I read His Word and “Mind Blown”.
I literally have to stop and just have a wow moment!
Kind of like in the introduction of the 70’s series Kung Fu.
The blind Kung Fu master says “As quickly as you can, snatch this pebble from my hand”.
Then you see the student go through his training and at the end of the intro, the student snatches the pebble from the masters hand and the master says “Time for you to leave”.
So, I have this “mind blown” moment and it’s as though God is telling me, “it is time for you to learn more”.
Can you imagine being a disciple and being in His physical presence? And trying to grasp it as it is coming at you full speed?
Last week I referred to them as knuckleheads, and although you may find this heard to believe, that was a term of endearment!
I say all that to say this:
This question has been a tough one for me, I may not have snatched the pebble from My Masters hand just yet, but not because it is due to a lack of trying!

Stand with me while we honor God as we read His word.
Mark 5:25-34 -read from my bible
Ask someone to read Mark 5:30
KJV- “virtue” instead of power
NLT- “healing power”
KJV-The Greek word for virtue is made up of two words
Arete(are-a-tee) excellence or valor
Dunamis(dune-a-mus) remarkable and miraculous power of God
NLT-“healing power” As I am trying to understand this verse, these two translations help distinguish “the power”. At least a little bit.
We have this desperate woman in the crowd, and she thinks to herself “If only I can touch the hem of His garment, I can be made well”. She is just over being a victim, right?
So, I’m reading this passage over and over and I’m trying to grasp why the power or virtue left Jesus. Was it kryptonite?
Right before this story, we are told of Jesus healing the demoniac in Mark 5:1-9 (read it).
There is so much to chew on here, but let’s look at one aspect.
There is a good possibility that there were at least 6,000 demons in this man.
A roman legion was 6k+.
Jesus commands Legion to flee this man, and sends them into a herd of swine.
In Mark 5:41 He resurrected the little girl.
In neither of these passages, are we told the power left Jesus. Only in one other passage could I find where we are told the power left Jesus. It is found in Luke 6:19 “and the whole multitude sought to touch Him, for power went out from Him and healed them all.”
But guess what, by the time we get to over Luke 8, it is as though He still has plenty left in the tank.
Scripture doesn’t tell us ALL the power left Him.
Back to the woman who touched Jesus’ garment.
Let’s look at the significance of why this woman believes that simply by touching His garment, she will be made well.
In order to do this, we must go back to the OT.
We are told of the tallit in Numbers 15:27-41. If you have ever read Numbers, it is chocked full of details. This is one of the many reasons I love reading Gods Word. It is so specific. Read Numbers 17:27-41. Malachi 4:2 gives more info.
As you dig deeper into the importance of Jewish tradition of the tallit, you begin to see perhaps why she believed in Jesus’ power and authority as the Messiah. This is from where her faith stems.
Hold onto that for a minute.
Have you ever felt the Holy Spirit, move you to “do something”?
Such as reach out to a friend, or give to someone?
Friday night, Lisa reminded me that she sees me as a giving person, and gave a few examples.
Although I really don’t see myself as a giving person, I do respond when the Holy Spirit convicts me.
I want to share with you of what I call “The story of Bobby”. Tell the story.
Had I not responded in the way I did, I would be living with the regret of not responding.
