This sermon emphasizes our responsibility as Christians to act as watchmen, spreading the Gospel and warning others of spiritual danger, with the understanding that neglecting this duty can have serious consequences.
Good morning, brothers and sisters! Today, we're going to dive into an important message from the book of Ezekiel, chapter 33. This passage speaks to us about the Responsibility of a Watchman, The Consequences of Neglect, and The Power of the Gospel. Theologian John Stott once said, "We must be global Christians with a global vision because our God is a global God." This reminds us that as Christians, we are all called to be watchmen in our own way, responsible for spreading the good news of the gospel to the world.
The responsibility of a watchman, as depicted in the book of Ezekiel, is a powerful metaphor for our Christian duty to share the Gospel. The watchman in the ancient world had a critical role. Stationed on the city walls, he would keep a vigilant eye for any signs of approaching danger. If he saw an approaching army, he would blow a trumpet to warn the people. The watchman's role was not to fight the battle himself, but to alert others so they could prepare and respond.
In the spiritual realm, we are all called to be watchmen. This is not a role reserved for pastors, missionaries, or church leaders alone. Every Christian has been given the responsibility to keep watch and warn others of impending danger. The danger we are watching for is not a physical army, but the spiritual forces of darkness that seek to lead people away from God and into eternal separation from Him. Our trumpet is the Gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ, which we are to proclaim to all people.
The watchman’s responsibility is twofold. Firstly, the watchman must stay alert and vigilant. This requires a deep relationship with God, regular prayer, and study of the Scriptures. We must be aware of the spiritual realities around us and discern the signs of the times. We cannot afford to be spiritually asleep or distracted. We must be in tune with God's Spirit, sensitive to His leading, and ready to respond when He prompts us to act.
Secondly, the watchman must sound the warning when danger is spotted. This means we must be bold in sharing the Gospel, even when it is not popular or convenient. We must not shy away from speaking the truth in love, even when it is hard. We must be willing to risk rejection, ridicule, and even persecution for the sake of Christ. We must remember that our responsibility is to sound the warning; it is up to each individual to respond.
The Consequences of Neglect is a theme that resonates deeply within this passage from Ezekiel ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
