Summary: A sermon about the choices we make. Based on life of Joshua.
BLISS OR DESPAIR—WHICH?
Joshua 24:15
INTRO: Joshua, the servant of God and leader of His people, is about to pass to his eternal reward. Before going, however, he gives to the nation he had so faithfully served his final command.
Let us now consider the choice made and urged by this servant of God in its application to ourselves.
I. IT IS A CHOICE BETWEEN TWO MASTERS.
A. Between Christ.
1. Possessing all loveliness.
2. The saviour (Acts 5:31).
B. Between Satan.
1. Possessing all hatefulness.
2. The destroyer (1 Peter 5:8).
II. IT IS A CHOICE BETWEEN TWO DEATHS.
A. Death of the Righteous.
B. Death of the Wicked.
C. Death of Bliss (Ps. 116:15).
D. Death of despair (John 8:21).
III. IT IS A CHOICE BETWEEN TWO RESURRECTIONS.
A. A resurrection unto everlasting life.
B. A resurrection unto everlasting shame and contempt (Daniel
12:2).
IV. IT IS A CHOICE BETWEEN TWO POSITIONS AT THE
JUDGMENT.
A. Between the right and left hand of the Judge (Matt. 25:32-33).
B. Right hand—enter heaven.
C. Left hand—depart to hell.
V. IT IS A CHOICE BETWEEN TWO ETERNAL DESTINIES.
A. Eternity with Christ in heaven.
B. Eternity with Satan in hell.
