Being blessed is not about having a perfect life or material possessions. It’s about understanding our origin and purpose. It's about being seen by God and having our stories rewritten by Him.

Youth Sermon: Blessed

What it really means to be blessed

You know how people post #blessed on their Instagram pics? Like when they're sipping a fancy coffee or chilling on a beach vacation? Well, today we're gonna talk about what it really means to be blessed.

Let's start with a little object lesson. I want you to think about a loaf of bread. It's pretty ordinary, right? But when you break it apart and share it, it becomes something special. That's kind of like us. We might feel ordinary, but in Jesus's hands, we become something amazing.

We might feel ordinary, but in Jesus's hands, we become something amazing.

Being blessed in the Bible

Let's look at the Bible, right at the beginning in Genesis. It says that God created everything - the earth, the seas, the plants, the animals, and us. And after He made each thing, He said it was good. He blessed it.

That's where we come from. We're not accidents. We're not mistakes. We're created by God, and He says we're good. He blesses us.

There's another story in Genesis about a woman named Hagar. She was a slave, an outsider, someone who didn't matter to a lot of people. But God saw her. He blessed her and promised her a future.

Maybe you feel like Hagar sometimes. Like you're on the outside looking in. Like you don't matter. But you do. God sees you. He wants to bless you and give you a future.

Being blessed isn't about having the perfect life. It's about knowing that God created you, He loves you, and He has a plan for you.

The challenge for this week

So here's the challenge for this week: Every time you see a loaf of bread, remember that you're blessed. Remember that God created you and loves you. And then share that blessing with someone else.

Let's pray

God, thank you for creating us and loving us. Help us to remember that we're blessed, not because of what we have, but because of who we are - your children. Amen.
