To explore the blessing, power, and responsibility of God's grace in our lives, as illuminated by various biblical passages.
Welcome, beloved family in Christ, to today’s sermon. I am excited as we delve into what I believe is a vital topic for every believer: The Blessing of Grace, The Power of Grace, and The Responsibility of Grace. We've all heard the phrase, "By the grace of God, I am what I am," but what does that really mean? How powerful is this grace and what is our responsibility in it? As we explore these questions together, we will draw wisdom from Psalm 86:6, John 1:16-17, 1 Corinthians 1:4, and Ephesians 4:7.
Let's take a moment to read these passages: "Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace." (Psalm 86:6, ESV) "For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." (John 1:16-17, ESV) "I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus," (1 Corinthians 1:4, ESV) "But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift." (Ephesians 4:7, ESV)
These scriptures highlight God's abundant grace in our lives. But what does this blessing of grace truly entail? How powerful is it and what is our responsibility towards it? As we find answers to these questions, I am reminded of what Pope Francis once said, "Grace is not part of consciousness; it is the amount of light in our souls, not knowledge nor reason."
"Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for your grace, which is new every morning. We pray for the understanding and wisdom to comprehend the depth of this grace, its power, and our responsibility in it. Open our hearts and minds to receive your word and let it transform us. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."
