BIG GOALS FOR GOD’S PEOPLE

Philippians 3:14

I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. We must set ourselves a goal, make it a big one, and make it an upward one. Small goals are easy to reach; small goals are nowhere near as satisfying when you do reach it. Paul knew exactly what he wanted because he wrote “One thing I do”, Paul had a goal, he knew what he wanted, and boy did he do everything in his power to get there.

The goal in disciple making is to teach yourself out of a job.

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night. We all should make this book the first thing we read and the last thing we read, so we can observe and do all according to what is written in it. Set a goal and by doing that He will make our ways prosperous, and then we will have a good success story, a Godly goal, leads to Godly success. You’ve probably heard this before, but the average persons life time includes 20 years of sleeping, 6 years of watching TV, 5 years of dressing and 5 years of shaving, 3 years of waiting for others, 1 year on the telephone, if your like me around 3-4 years on the internet and 4 months of tying shoes, Briony and people in her profession, would spend around 11 months tying shoe laces. I don’t speak in regard to need, because we have to learn that whatever situation we are in, we are to be content with it: The word says that “The Spirit of the LORD is upon us, Because He has anointed us To preach the gospel to the poor; the poor doesn’t naturally mean with no money, He sends us to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, only the ones in jail, no, not just the ones held in prisons, and recovery of sight to the blind, the blind sometimes CAN see, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD. Lets go out and set our goal for those in these situations. A new commandment has been given to us that have faith, that we love one another; as He loved us, “By this all will know that we are His disciples, in His presence there is fullness of joy; At His right hand there are pleasures forevermore, this is why we are to learn the ways of God, and God wants us to set our goals for His purpose. The word says that there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for we are all one in Christ Jesus. And if we are Christ’s, then we are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. Therefore, as we have the opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith, especially those of the household, why, because we are His disciples that’s why. With our goals set and even written down, let each of us examine our own work for each of us shall bear our own load. Learn the word and share in all the good things that God has to offer. Don’t be afraid to set a goal and then sometime down the track find out that this wasn’t from God, God knows your heart and sees what no man can, the big picture, seek the kingdom of God and when we find His righteousness in our lives, then our desires will be for things that are OF God and not our flesh, for whatever a man sows, that he will reap. Sow with the flesh and we will reap corruption, sow to the Spirit and we will reap everlasting life. Ask God to let us not grow weary while doing good, for in the right season we will reap if we don’t lose heart. Having a big or be it a long-term goal, and remembering what God says to each of us in His word, remembering the good things that will come from having a Godly goal, and seeing more of the big jigsaw puzzle. That amazes me more every day, that God does have a plan to prosper us in all the things that we do for Him, and not losing heart because today doesn’t seem to be going according to plan, the end will come near and in due time we will see our goal flourishing. When we see the dream God has given us being fulfilled we start to get excited and become delighted AND CONTENT in doing what is right. 2 peter 1:3 basically says that Godliness comes through knowledge, a knowledge of Him, Know God and find knowledge, 1 Timothy 4:7 says to train yourself to be Godly, and that’s what I try and do when ever I get the chance, I get the microphone out and put a tape in the recorder and get out one of my sermons that I have written and just preach it to the audience, sometime I only see a few and sometimes I see thousands, if there is anything I can do to further MY experience with MY God, I try to take the opportunity to go for it. Our goals must include others, it’s not worth the effort if we only set goals for ourselves, is it, we also need to be able to measure our goals, to see how far we have come, or not come, and we need to be able to expand on our goals, because once we get close to achieving it, it is better to be able to say well I think its time to throw the ball a little further, throw the ball you ask well it was a dream I had a while ago and I was talking about throwing a ball only a little way, it doesn’t take much to walk over and pick it up but if I threw it a long way it would take longer to get to it but inevitably I would get there, that’s why we should never set a goal in concrete. Our goals should always be filled with conviction, this is the confidence that the certain goal we have set is really worth it at all, it’s the fuel that pushes us to achieve. There are a couple of things I recommend in achieving a goal, first Look up find a model, that’s someone we respect, someone who seems to be doing a better job at it than us. Second is to Give up, we all have to give something up in order to get something we need, or even better what we need to become, like Abraham, had to give up his home, to be given a better country, Moses gave up the riches of Egypt, David gave up security, Jesus gave up His rights and His life. We will all find we will have to give up something to get something better, to become someone better, to achieve what God says is better. Next we need to fire up, sad is the day for any man when he becomes absolutely satisfied with the life that he is living, (spoken by Phillips Brooks), beat at your soul today church and reach for something better, something bigger, finally what we have to do is show up, face the challenges with God and nothing can overcome us, see the challenge, grab the ball and run with all you have to get through, the try line is just beyond, don’t be afraid of challenges meet them head on, then we can go up. Now let me put what I just said into fighting terms for you, if we look up we can give up, then we can fire up, then all we have to do is show up so we can go up. Pretty simple in theory you say, but it has been proven as I mentioned earlier, the great men of the bible have done it, now so can we, but only after we look up, give up, fire up, and show up, can we go up. Commitment is the next step to achieving our goals, commit yourself to God’s great plan, as I said earlier God has a plan to prosper us, and translated in the NKJV God has a thought for us, doesn’t every great goal, vision or plan start with a thought, YEP, we get the I thought it stage, then we get the I caught it stage, once we get to this stage we get excited because we begin to talk about it, and we even see ourselves in it, then comes the I bought it stage but unfortunately not everyone buys into this stage, it may scare them who knows God knows, but for what ever reason 2 out 3 people just don’t go there. After we catch the vision of a great Godly goal, we have to put a deposit down on it. I challenge you church make the investment, because no dream, vision, or goal comes true automatically, we have to buy it. We have to know what our plans are because Paul had a plan and this is what he says about it. If you would like to follow, the scripture verse is 2 Corinthians 1:17-20. His purpose was not according to the flesh; Paul left no room for people to accuse him of inconstancy, nor a contradiction between his words and intentions. So we must also be clear in what we say about our plans for the future of our visions, plans and goals. That’s not to say we can’t try things out, and if they’re not working for one reason or another, try something else, go about it another way, and do it with God and His guidance. I have been known to have gone to quiet a few different bible study groups and prayer meetings, but also known to stop going fairly quickly as well, I hope and I pray that it isn’t because I m inconsistent, but rather treading the water to find what areas God wants me to be in. I have found that I can always justify why I don’t go to that study group any more, or the prayer meeting, because there is always someone there that will be a better prayer or he/she shouldn’t pray like that, that’s putting words in God’s mouth and He is the one that has the Grace here not us. God’s grace will always allow for us to move around and find the right place, position or situation, that’s not saying when things get tough we back out, withdraw or even stop going, but it is a time where we can ask God to guide us and put this situation on a timer, and see where God will lead. The strength to carry on in tough times can only come from one source, God. Behind every great accomplishment is a purpose, not a wish, so let me spell that out for you. We must have.
