Summary: Sermon number four in a series of nine
BIBLICAL PARENTING &
GODLY CHILDREN
(PART FOUR)
Hosea 4:1-6
Mal 4:4-6
Eph 6:1-4
Col 3:20, 21
If no truth = no word = no faith
Faith comes by hearing
No faithfulness Results in chaos, rebellion
No kindness
No knowledge of God
Hosea 4:4 - Let no one find fault with one another but with the priest. There is a priest in the home. Priest represents God to others
Hosea 4:6 – lack of knowledge acquaintance with facts/truths; as a result lawlessness and rebellion.
God has given the knowledge to the parent to be passed onto the child
2 Dimensions of life:
1. Vertical – natural order reflects upon your
2. Horizontal – spiritual order
Ps 127:3 – children are a heritage of the Lord.
Children are God’s loan to the parent. God wants the children to be with Him in heaven.
The skill to parent the children must come from the Lord since the children are a gift from the Lord.
Most parents go to the natural to develop the skills on how to raise their children.
The solution is Knowledge of God.
Prov 1:7 – the foolish refuse wisdom and instruction. You must have respect of and for God before knowledge will flow.
Biblical parenting:
1. Obedience to God’s Word
2. Obedience to the Spirit of God
3. A life of reverence to God
4. Now is ready to accept the knowledge of God
Deut 8:5, 6 – disciplines (instruct, correct, reform, punish, and reprove)
What are you to teach? Submission to authority in the church, society, and home.
Spiritual authority will be reflected in the natural order. In our world, religion makes one spiritual. Attending church makes one spiritual.
Gal 5:16 – walk in the Spirit
Gal 5:22 – the fruit of the Spirit
The spiritual is reflected in the natural order.
I Cor 13:1-3 – if I don’t have love … don’t put on a façade
Ps 68:6 – children who are rebellious are indicative of the void in the home.
I Cor 1:7 – we’re lacking not in any gift
I Cor 3;1 – not as spiritual man, but as man of the flesh. Families were in disarray – household not in order. Arguing over who’s more important. Even if you have messed up, THERE IS STILL HOPE.
Rom 13:1 – Let every soul be subject to God. Submission to authority is Holy. To allow your children to be rebellious to you.
Is to allow your children to be rebellious to God.
Obedience is required.
Disobedience is not tolerated.
Obedience is a Christ principle. Disobedience is a satan principle.
Submission is what I choose to give
Somebody has to be in authority
Somebody is in submission
When parents go to the natural order to learn how to parent:
o Abuse transpires
o Abandonment transpires
o Rebellion transpires
o Lawlessness transpires
Question: What is the solution?
Answer: Obtain the knowledge of God. It starts at the home. Parents, we are preparing the children to be ready to meet God. Parents will teach submission to our children.
Authority exercised in love (in light of the knowledge of God) produces:
o Obedience in the children.
o Security in the children
o Direction in the children
Rebellion is produced when parents shrink from their responsibilities. God gives the power to train our children regardless of our circumstances (sigh parent).
Dr. Spock preached a parenting gospel from hell. Allowing the 2 years old to express themselves without restrain. The 2 year old ran the house.
Dr. Spock at his deathbed renounced his theory of parenting. When you discredit the Word of God, you discredit the knowledge of God. We have to see to it that our children submit and obey.
Prov 29:15 – the road and reproof gives wisdom
Prov 22:15 – the rod of discipline …
Prov 23:13 – Do not hold back discipline …
Prov 23:14 – and deliver his soul from hell …
Rod = switch
Beat = punish, correction, smite
Reproof = instruction
Done in God’s love = pain without damage. It means that don’t cut nor bruise (certain amount of pain without abuse).
Punishment and instruction never chastise your child out of anger or frustration but out of love. Don’t exasperate your children out of your inconsistencies. Train them to submit and receive instruction from God which produces a happy home.
