Beware The Little Foxes: Guarding The Vineyard Of Your Heart
Contributed by Samuel Supan on Aug 18, 2025 (message contributor)
Summary: Introduction – The Danger of Small Things
Point 1 – Small Sins Have Big Consequences
Ecclesiastes 10:1 says, “As dead flies give perfume a bad smell, so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.”
In Filipino life, we’ve seen this:
• A sari-sari store loses customers not because of one big scandal, but because of paunti-unting dishonesty—short-changing by 1 peso, overcharging by 50 cents.
• A marriage is not destroyed in a day; it starts with little neglects—no more “kumusta ka?” after work, no more date nights, small hurtful words left unhealed.
Spiritually, little foxes may look like:
• A “small” lie on your tax form.
• “White lies” to avoid embarrassment.
• Skipping prayer just for today because you’re “too busy.”
• Gossip masked as “prayer request.”
Illustration: Isang araw, may bahay na may butas sa bubong, pero maliit lang. Akala ng may-ari, “Mamaya ko na aayusin.” Pero nung dumating ang tag-ulan, doon na nagsimulang tumulo at lumaki ang sira.
? Small ignored problems become big disasters.

Point 2 – The Enemy Works Subtly
Genesis 3:1 describes the serpent as “more crafty than any of the wild animals.” The devil rarely says, “Commit this big sin now!” Instead, he whispers: “It’s just a small thing… everyone’s doing it… wala namang nakakaalam.”
In the Philippines, we often hear, “Wala namang mawawala kung mag-uwi ka ng isang bond paper sa opisina.” But what happens? That small compromise grows:
• From bond paper to office supplies,
• From small lies to covering up big mistakes,
• From a few missed church services to total spiritual coldness.
Illustration: Like termites in a bahay kubo, they don’t come with loud noise. They work silently until one day—the whole post collapses.
That’s why Ephesians 4:27 says, “Do not give the devil a foothold.” Kahit maliit na pintuan, kapag nakapasok ang magnanakaw, sisirain niya ang buong bahay.

Point 3 – Guard Your Vineyard Diligently
Your “vineyard” is your spiritual life—your relationship with God, your joy, your testimony, your family. Song of Solomon says, “Catch the foxes.” That means be proactive. Hindi pwedeng “bahala na,” dapat “bantayan at aksyunan.”
Practical ways to guard your vineyard:
1. Identify your little foxes – Ano yung “small sins” na madalas mong palusutin?
o Uncontrolled scrolling that wastes prayer time.
o Unforgiveness over small offenses.
o Being careless with words online.
2. Confess immediately – 1 John 1:9 says when we confess, He forgives.
3. Build spiritual fences – Set boundaries with media, relationships, and habits.
4. Surround yourself with vineyard keepers – Accountability partners, Bible study groups, mature believers.
