Betrayal

October 7, 2012 Evening Service

Immanuel Baptist Church, Wagoner, OK

Rick Boyne

Message Point: We betray the cross of Jesus when we sin.

Focus Passage: 2 Samuel 15:7-12

Supplemental Passage: While He was still speaking, behold, a crowd came, and the one called Judas, one of the twelve, was preceding them; and he approached Jesus to kiss Him. But Jesus said to him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?" (Luke 22:47-48 NASB)

Introduction: There was a missionary in China who rode the bus everyday with the people. She was very friendly and open with her faith and dearly loved the Chinese. Trying to obey the oppressive Chinese law, she wouldn’t pass out Bibles indiscriminately, but always give one to someone who asked her, usually after she got to know them a little bit. Someone befriended her on the bus and asked for a Bible. She gave them one and that person immediately went to the authorities and betrayed her. She and her family were deported from China.

a. Absalom worked hard to win over the hearts of the men of Israel, and had spies to carry out the betrayal

b. Others will employ others to betray us, so that they don’t do it alone

c. We will conspire to sin against God when we scheme and plan a sin

III. Betrayal for power
